Greetings everyone,
Today we continued our campaign to help combat the spread of malaria in the Navrongo community. Since we are approaching the early stages of the rainy season, this time is quite ideal to educate households about the preventive measure against malaria such as draining stagnant water, clearing of weed around houses, keeping your surroundings clean, etc. We therefore set forth to visit the less privileged households in the community.
We were short of 2 members of our team in this particular campaign today. @wonderbwoy had to go for a camp event at Bolga while @alhajibabajnr also had to travel to the Ahafo region of Ghana. I therefore went with @marwone and @stephen for today's exercise.
Our focus today was on a different session of the area near the Navasco Senior High School. This is because there are numerous mud houses in that area who are quite exposed to the risk of contracting malaria.
During our first household visit, we visited the house of this farmer who was gathering feed for his livestock upon our arrival. He warmly received us after which we exchanged pleasantries. We then introduced ourselves along with our campaign to help fight the spread of malaria in the Navrongo community. He was very co operative with us listened to our message about the preventive measure of malaria.
Educating this man about the preventive measures against malaria contraction
We then gave out 2 mosquito nets to him since we realized he had a daughter. He was then told to wash and dry for two days in order to prevent the itching sensation that comes with not doing so.
Giving out two mosquito nets to him and his family
We then carried on to the next household. That was when we came across this woman who was busy working on her maize grains. We therefore approached her and told her of our mission. This time, it was @marwone who educated her on the need to take the necessary precautions against this disease.
@marwone providing relevant guidance
We then gave her 2 mosquito nets ; one for herself and another for the other household in the compound.
When we reached this particular household, the woman here who was busily preparing her supper really made us laugh as she had a good sense of humor. This is because, as a form of courtesy we greeted in their local dialect, Kasen. Then after we tried to speak to her in English, she pretended as if she spoke neither forcing us to use sign languages alongside english.
It was @stephenoppong's turn but he managed to do a great job with the whole process. It was later that we found out that she understood everything and was just messing with us.
This woman also received her own mosquito net
We then proceeded to the next house.
Here, we met a young boy who spoke good english. We then took our time to give him a similar education as we gave to the rest of the households. However, we made him aware of the greater responsibility he has as a young and educated young man to always insist on doing the right things in the house which will help them all in the long run
Another mosquito net receipient
We were then drawn towards the next household because of the nursing mother we saw in front of the house. We have made it our topmost priority to help shield these young babies from this disease since they have less matured immune systems that will make it difficult to fight off the malaria.
The woman was really appreciative of our efforts. In fact, I think we made a new friend here since she told us she would like to here from us again.
Gave out one last mosquito net to this nursing mother
Thank you for your attention.
That's great. Keep it up man
