Appreciation of poetry is something that not many people often do when they come across it or even go out of their way to seek it.
This can be said to be due to lack or inadequate understanding and appreciation of this genre of literature, hence, it can seem confusing or at best, a composition of incomplete phrases or statements.
Poetry can be used to serve a number of means, including; expressing or sharing emotions; description of occurrences or events; creation of vivid images in reader's minds; describe an atmosphere; relay information; tell stories; and cause sadness, joy, amusement, as well as give instructions. It can also bring to bear, societal problems to the reader and sensitize them to it, so as to encourage the reader or individual to take action.
Poetry being as it is, serves as a good form of entertainment and can also be a means of stimulating the brain of both the poet and that of the reader, in that, the poet has to come up with a creative way to write the poem and the reader also goes into the creative depths of their minds to understand, appreciate and most of all, enjoy the poem.
