The name of my elder brother is Mr promise He is the first child of my family. He is one resilient person i know, aside that he is very brainy. I have 4 siblings and he happens to be the first. He is from Nigeria and lives in one of the eastern states of Nigeria.
He is currently married with kids.

Guess what life has not always been so rosy for him, but he is one person that is determined to succeed and that was how he got to this point of his life. I will tell you his story.

HIS STORY

Like i said earlier, my brother is the first son of my parent, and in Nigeria, especially in the eastern part, first child has so much responsibilities with alot of persons looking up to them like we the younger ones. And it is believed that the elder ones paves the way for younger ones. An elder one should lead by example.

His story started while growing up, i remember he was done with secondary education and was anticipating to move into the university. Dont forget i said he is a brainy man, in other words, he is intelligent. But i noticed the first JAMB ( joint admission and matriculation board. This exam qualifies students in Nigeria to gain admission into the university.) he wrote, he didnt qualify to move to the university. He had to stay back at home for a whole year so he can rewrite Jamb the next year. I could imagine seeing his friends move to the university and calling him to say "promise i gained admission, how far you na"

Hmm The next year came, he sat for the exams again the results came out and he didnt reach cut off mark for the course he applied for. Meanwhile some friends he was coaching for the jamb exams all gained admission. And this time the embarrassement was much because those he taught began asking so much questions. My parents began to panic. My Dad was not finding it funny, he got upset with my brother.

To cut the story short, promise stayed at home for seven(7) years before he gained admission, and by this time everyone had given up on him and his studies. I dont know how he didnt give up on himself. He kept pushing to improve himself, he even became a teacher in a school, helping students and some persons didnt even know he had not even entered the four walls of a university. At this point where he was still at home, some of his friends back in secondary school had already graduated. Some even had started working but he was still there. I can imagine all the insults he had to bear, the shame, the humiliation and everything. I dont know if i can go through such process. And by this time my elder sister who he is older than had gotten admission into school already. Just imagine what it was like?

Finally, when everyone thought his case was a closed one, he wrote jamb again and this time he gained admission into one of the eastern universities in Nigeria. The joy was full in the house. And today he is not just a graduate. He is went further for his masters and doctorate degree. He graduated as one of the best students in his discipline.

CONCLUSION

Against all odds, he determined he must move to his next level. I see determination, hardwork and resilience.

Always learn to believe in yourself even when others dont see a reason to believe in you. Build yourself up with faith in God and be rest assured that those who didnt believe in you would stand on the queue to see you and would pay for your services.
