Hello beautiful Steemians, I am particularly glad to participate in this contest. I see it as an avenue for me to share the cries of my heart, besides my anticipation for the new year.

This year 2020,highly anticipated year for great visions and big dreams( VISION 2020),turned out as a huge blow on everyone, not just individuals but on all the nations of the world. 2020 is an irony of itself.

•First,it was COVID-19 pandemic. In Nigeria, we had only been hearing of the outbreak of this strange disease in China. All of a sudden,it broke out and spread all over the country. Many lives were lost. People lived out of fear and starvation as lockdown was declared. The economy was badly affected.

•The outbreak started from a foreigner who came into country in February. In fact,he got tested positive in my school's teaching hospital where we go for our Nursing posting. The News went viral. It was a shock on us all.

•Our postings were suspended first, then lectures suspended too. The brim of it all, students were instructed to move out of the hostels. We moved out finally in late March.

•We lost loved ones in this year, most came as a shock, few due to sickness.

•The #EndSars Protests by the Nigerian youths came up. The peaceful protest ended on a bloody note. Many families lost their loved ones. A particular mother lost her 3 children on the same day to the killing on 20th October,2020.

•Many killings in different part of the country, especially in the Northern region, by the armed bandits called, Boko Haram. The bandit has killed Over 1100 people in Northern west and Northern east since the year started.

•Recently, there was an abduction of over 300 schoolboys from Government Science Secondary school,Kankara in Kastina- home state of our president,by the same Boko Haram. Thank God that nearly all the boys have been recovered.

•ASUU (Academic Staff Union of Universities) strike started after lockdown was eased, affecting the universities' calendar in Nigeria. Now that schools are partially opened, this strike is still affecting the schools under its association.

WHAT ARE MY EXPECTATIONS FOR THE NEW YEAR?

With all these serious blows, my expectations are high for the coming new year.
•I really want the Corona Virus Pandemic to come to a permanent end.
•I greatly anticipate a good year for Nigrians where we begin to experience good governance, security and peace.
•I want ASUU Strike called off, so that universities can resume sessions
•I intend to meet up optimally with my Nursing course expectations as this year's academic calendar was brutally disrupted.
•As a baker, I look forward to expand my business networks, take more cake orders,do more deliveries, engage in business-promoting strategies etc in a bid to increase my cake business. Actually, before the pandemic,I already had booked cake orders in school but got cancelled as we had to leave the school premises. So I plan to give it all it takes for its growth and expansion, but not at detriment of my studies.

•In the new year,I will tell more people about Steemit and refer them to @talktofaith,my team coordinator for recruitment. I'm glad to be a part of Steemit. So, I will share the goodness I have tasted to others so they can also join this wonderful platform.

WHAT ARE MY UNFORGETTABLE MEMORIES?

•I lost my little nephew this year in September. It was a very painful loss 😭. Everyone in the neighbourhood felt the loss. He was such a loving and promising boy. He was very friendly, greeted almost everyone in his way and as his custom,he would pray for them.He was popularly called "our pastor" in the neighbourhood. His death was sudden. I will forever miss him, he was very dear to him.

The cake I made for him on his last birthday

• Also,I cannot forget the massacre of Nigerian Youths on 20/10/2020. It was a bloody Tuesday,as Nigerian soldiers killed the peaceful protesters at Lekki tollgate. The heroes and heroines that died for the cause of this country will not be forgotten in the history of Nigeriay

•Lastly, my graduation year has been shifted by a year. My course is already a long-year programme. The pandemic and strike has made it even longer. I cannot easily forget this.

MY CHRISTMAS PREPARATION

I really don't have much preparation for Christmas or the new year.
I only intend to appreciate a customer for her patronage. So,I am preparing to bake a surprise Christmas cake for her, to be delivered on X-mas day. This is my way to say "Thank you for patronizing @afunkeys_cakes".

Besides this,I just hope and pray to God for a good promising year as 2021 arrives.

Thank you all for reading through my post.

Thank you.

Hello @afunkycares
. I confirm your entry to the contest.

2020 is an irony in itself.

I like your sentence. Because we lived years like a joke. We lived things that could not happen in our dreams. I was very sorry that you lost your loved ones. I lost the same way. I wish patience. I looked at the protests. This is very sad when humanity should live in peace. I wish you peace, love and tranquility in the new year. Good luck :)

Thank you very much. We strongly hope and pray for peace and security in our nation.
