Introduction
Yams are carbohydrate healthy tubers commonly found in homes especially in African, Asian and American continents. Yam is eaten not just for it's great taste, but for it's nutritious and anti-inflammatory benefits.
Benefits of Yam
•Yams contains enough fibre and resistant starch which helps to improve blood sugar level and insulin sensitivity.
• Yams helps in weight loss. Yeah! You know why/how? Because it contains complex carbohydrate which breaks down into sugars that are absorbed gradually by the body and helps you feel satisfied or full for a longer time.
• If you've been struggling with hairloss and other hair problems, worry no more! Just keep eating yam, all of those will be history. That's because, yam contains beta carotene which helps in hair growth as well as thicken and adds beauty to the hair.
• Yam helps to prevent premature/still birth, because it contains iron, a key mineral needed by pregnant women.
• Yam is a good source of B-complex group of vitamins that helps various metabolic functions in the body.
How I prepared my crunchy and fluffy fried yam
Things needed
• Yam
• Vegetable oil
• Salt
• Water
• Frying pan
• Knife
• A bowl
• Trail pan(optional)
Procedure
• Peel off the yam skin
• Cut the yam into halves
• Divide the halves into two and keep slicing till you get the desired shapes.
• Place the yams immediately into a bowl of cold water and leave it there whilst you keep cutting the rest.
• Wash the yams and drain off the water.
•Add some salt depending on the quantity of yam you have.
• Toss the yams so that the salt can spread and penetrate into the yams.
• Place the frying pan on a medium heat, add the oil and allow to heat up.
• Gently lower the yams into the hot oil and allow to fry for about 3minutes.
• Turn the yams using a fork so the other sides can also fry. Leave it until it becomes crunchy and fluffy all over.
Note
• Handle the sharp knife carefully while cutting the yam to avoid being cut.
• While frying, do not take your eyes off the yam so it doesn't get burnt.
• My fried yam is ready and can be served with tomato sauce.
Conclusion
Yam is an amazing meal that does not only have a great taste, but it's highly beneficial to our health. You can enjoy your fried yam with any sauce of your choice.
