Hello beautiful women,

How do we make a living! 🤔

Simply by working and earning right, so with this contest topic my mind went straightaway to the saying of “Work to Live or Live to Work?”, What exactly are we doing? Live or work.

Do women have to help to Live, or to Earn? Let’s see how this concept sees from my country's perspective.

Earning something for the family will always be helpful, but the concept of women doing a job to the extent to help the family was not something typical Sri Lankan family would expect. They love their daughters or grand-daughters achieving the highest level of education possible. They will spend any amount of money for the education of their wellbeing, but when it’s come to the job they will think twice before giving the permission.

But Why?

In Sri Lanka, women hold the family together. “Mother”, the position that has all the power in the most of family. Though they do not earn any money they will be the budget allocators and accountants in the family. So, almost every Mother wants the happiness of the family and they will try to live as happy as they can and give everything for the family, hence the workforce will be the men. Their utmost purpose will be to earn while women take care of the home chores and educate children.

That was a good family plan about 20 years back, but with today's economy, we cannot hold the family in such away. Day to day our needs and wants are becoming more complicated and to fulfill our needs we want money!

That’s where everything changed. Even for myself. I was the only girl in my family with four elder brothers. They never wanted me to do a job. And since I was born in the village part of the country the life was way simpler than the city life. We lived happily.

After the marriage, I came to the city and I found that living here is not that simple without some extra cash. My husband was doing a decent job in the tourism sector back then and we were living without much trouble. All I had to do was to manage the home chores. But we had dreams and to achieve them quickly I wanted to help him with extra cash, I wanted to do a beautician and hairdresser course and my husband was very happy about my plan.

After a few years, I was able to open my own salon and start earning. With the recent corona pandemic situation, my husband lost his job. Now the decision I took 5 years back paying off well. Though the country’s airport yet to open all other activities are in place. Hence, I’m able to do the day-to-day operation in the salon. But my husband is waiting until the tourism gets back. If I haven’t had an opportunity to work and earn, we will be in real struggle by now.

So, do women help the family earn a living?

Of course, at least I do 😊

“No economy can grow to its full potential unless women and men participate fully,” said World Bank Chief Executive Officer Kristalina Georgieva.

According to the world bank also that proves.

However, dig into the topic I have found similar situations to Sri Lanka in the world as well.

“More than half the world women are still prevented from working in certain jobs simply because of their gender. The report finds that where there is gender equality in labor laws, more women work and earn more relative to men. Women should have the same equality of opportunity as men to provide for themselves, and to give their children the best start in life possible.”

According to the report, 2.7 billion women worldwide still do not have the freedom to choose a job or start a business of their choice. They have been deprived of that freedom by various laws. However, I’m glad that has Sri Lanka has no such legal impediment to starting a business for a woman. According to local sources currently, about 10 percent of the business sector in Sri Lanka is owned by women.

Now to second question of the contest,

How do you invest in Steemit, why?

5 years ago, I was jobless but one simple good decision made everything changed in my life, same as that I didn’t know anything about crypto world 03months back, and still I took another decision to join steem world and write article as such this. For the moment I have no intention to power down at least for the next 05 years. I will keep raising my SP and keep writing on this platform. If, crypto becomes the next big thing in the world I will also have a share of it in some exchange.

Good Bye!
