Good day friend. Am happy to be here. @Comunidad Latina. I am, username @mikemm and my name is Michael. This is a very wonderful and interesting and well chosen topic for a contest.
I like this topic because, it taps deep into one of our natural senses, the sense of taste.
We all know how a good meal makes us feel. From it's preparation to the the last gulp of the meal, we salivate, smell the aroma, it gives us this feeling of "I want to live forever ," to continue eating it. Of course, we I'll live forever it's Gods will.
After all, he's the one that created the food and our desire to eat. And there much availability of it. So it's no wonder that we wouldn't mind eating our favorite meal over and over again.
As for what constitutes ones favorite breakfast, it is determine by ones cultural background, region, religion and the topography lives and where one was born. Other factors are exposures, traveling and association. In all, no culture should determine what my favorite breakfast should be.
WHATS YOUR FAVORITE BREAKFAST?
Before I tell you about my favorite breakfast, let me give you a little background of my culture. I am an Ngwa man, from the southeastern part of Nigeria. Our cultural food is a cassava based flour call "garri". Which we eat together with soup. We have a variety of soups. There's the "egusi soup", "okoro or okora soup" there's the "ora", "ogbono soup".
In my culture, there's no specific time to have breakfast. We are allowed to eat anytime we are hungry. So in the morning, we are free to boil water and do the garri and with any of the available soup(s), breakfast is served.
With this narrative, you now know my favorite breakfast. Let me make it official, my favorite breakfast is garri and egusi soup. If there's no egusi soup, I can make do with any of the others. Egusi is Melon seed. When the melon is broken the seeds are dried and ground to form a paste.
WHAT INGREDIENTS DOES IT INCLUDE?
Egusi Soup
The following are the ingredients to my favorite breakfast:
(a) Egusi seeds.(melon)
(b) Palm oil.
(c) Ugu leaves(Pumpkin leaves) or any other preferred.
(d) Smoked Dried fish.
(e) Stock fish.
(f) Crayfish.
(g) Fresh pepper
(h) Beef
(i) Onions
(j) Maggi cube
(k) Ogiri
(l) Tomatoes(optional)
(m) Snail (optional)
(n) Garri (cassava flour)
Garri ready to be eaten
WHAT TIME DO YOU HAVE BREAKFAST? AND WHO PREPARES IT?
Generally, breakfasts is serviced in between 7am to 8am. For me it depends on my mood or my morning schedule. I like eating around 7:30am.
My breakfasts is prepared by my lovely wife. She wakes up early because she goes to work by 6am.
WHAT ARE THE TYPICAL BREAKFAST IN YOUR COUNTRY?
Nigeria is multicultural, multi-religious and multi-ethnic country. The Igbo's in the southeast, have roasted yam or coco-yam and palm-oil with pepper and salt as the sauce. Or alternatively, garri and soup.
The Yoruba's in the southwest take pap and beans, or with bean cake known as "Akara". Alternatively, beans and bread. The Hausa's follow the same pattern as the Yoruba's, they go for pap and akara(bean cake). Of course, many due to exposure to the West, take tea, coffee, bread, sausages, spaghetti or other forms of noddles.
Yes, our rich culture requires varieties of food and delicacies. Perhaps I shall find time to give you a comprehensive write up of the various foods you I'll find in Nigeria.
