Intro

Hi students, welcome to the first class of the electronics workshop. This first lesson is very important as it would highlight the foundation of electronics and it is very important that students takes every information here very serious. From now on, we would use most of the things we would learn today in our subsequent classes if not all.

At the end of this class, students would be able to identify each electronics components in a circuit. Students would also be able to draw the symbol of each electronics components as well as interpret a circuit diagram.

Here comes electronics

Electronics is one of the branches of physics and at the same time is one of the many specializations of engineering, electronics is also associated with electricity, only that lower voltages and intensities are handled, thanks to the semiconductor elements that make up the electronic circuits.

In order to understand electronics it is necessary to lay the foundations, to know the basic electronics, for that reason our first class will be focused on this first phase - "components and symbols".

But just before we jump into the components symbols, let's take a look of how symbols looks like. We would consider a connected wire symbol and not connected wire, we would also note the positive terminal and the negative terminal(ground).

Workshop 1

Electronic Symbology: The electronic symbology is universal, therefore we would like you to draw on paper the symbols of the following :

  • Alternating current
  • Direct current
  • Amperage
  • Resistance
  • Potentiometer or variable resistor
  • Rectifier diode
  • Zener diode
  • LED diode
  • Diode bridge
  • Electrolytic capacitor
  • Ceramic capacitor
  • Coil
  • Fuse
  • Transformer
  • Battery
  • Ground
  • NPN and PNP transistor
  • Motor

Do not limit yourself to studying only the symbols listed above, as new components may be added over the next few weeks without prior notice. Most of our classes would be based on diagrams and circuits. Students are all encourage to master these symbols.

Workshop 2

Briefly define the following...

  • Alternating Voltage
  • Direct Voltage
  • Resistance
  • Potentiometer
  • Rectifier diode
  • Diode bridge
  • Capacitor
  • Transistor
  • Transformer
  • Fuse
  • Lithium battery

Electronics components:

The electronic components or semiconductors, can have a great variety of sizes, shapes and colors. They are the background or foundation of any electronics device, therefore it is necessary that the student gets familiar with them, this way he/she will be able to identify them easily when looking at electronic circuits.

As you know, we have so many of them. Can you think of some...? That's right! Now that you have gotten them, we would give you a little task to discourse the few of them highlighted below:

Workshop 3

Mention the following types of:

  • Resistors
  • Capacitors
  • Diodes
  • Transistor according to their encapsulation.
  • Coils

Identification of components on an electronic board:

Taking into account what you have learned you will have to locate at home some electronic device , discover its circuit and identify as many electronic components present in it .

The following images show two electronic boards containing various electronic components that you have already studied and observed during this first lesson.

Through whole electronic board

SMD or surface mount electronic board

Instructions :

  • The participation schedule is between Monday, July 8 , 2024 at 00:00 UTC to Sunday, - July 14, 2024 at 23:59 UTC.

  • Feel free to post in any language hence it can be translated on google translator

  • Please make sure to include our tag #electronicss19w1 among your first four tags for easy search.

  • Post the link of your assignment in the comment section of this lesson.

All our instructions are supper important and all participating students are advised to read and understand those rules/regulations.

Assignment

  • Task 1 : Answer question on workshop 1

  • Task 2 : Answer question on workshop 2

  • Task 3 : Answer question on workshop 3

Task 4: Taking into account what you have learned download the images above and identify as many electronic components as possible in each of them and in turn place the corresponding symbol.Indicate the quantity of a particular component that can be found on that board. It should be noted that the circuit boards repeat components, so it is sufficient to identify only one of each for a better visualization. We would like you to show a clear image that has the identification of each element with its electronic symbol.

Note to students:

Additional efforts will be taken into account , so try to be creative , original and show your interest in learning .

We would share 10 SP to the best selected Students for next week.

We hope you liked this first lesson, if you have completed all the tasks, please kindly wait wait for the professor's comments and continue studying to be prepared for the second week.

Goodluck

Awesome details #ubongudofot, the innovation of both Direct & Alternating Current lead to many convenient inventions we take for granted today...

Thanks for sharing!

It's really educating though.

Saludos equipo muy feliz de iniciar este proyecto para reforzar mis conocimientos básicos de electrónica espero seguir paso a paso todas las tareas y participar en cada una de ellas

Get your tools and components intact and follow along as we would create something very interesting.

Maravilloso.

One of the best topic to learn something new surely I will drop my entry soon 🤞. But we are free to post our entry in electronics academy? Let me clear.

We would be waiting to read your assignment!

But we are free to post our entry in electronics academy? Let me clear.

Sure students can drop their assignments here in Electronics Academy community.

Pay attention to the instructions.

Alright... Thanks a lot for a kind response sir 😁

Hello friend

I think you have shared original contest post in this link instead of your entry. Please check and correct it.

Thanks 🙏
