As I venture into a new chapter of my career, I'm excited to share my experiences with you. I've recently added POP (Plaster of Paris) work to my architectural skills, and I'm eager to learn, apply and grow.

Today marked a significant milestone, my first outing with my new master. After completing the necessary payments, I set off on a long journey to Annañg in Ika Local Government Area.

Although we arrived in the afternoon, we didn't let the late start deter us. We dove straight into work, and I'm thrilled to share the details of our accomplishments with you. Let me take you through my journey...

Waiting at my master's house.

I woke up at 5:30 am, earlier than usual, to prepare for our departure. My master had informed me that we would be leaving Uyo, our hometown, by 8 am, so I had to get a head start. I packed my clothes and essentials, knowing that we would be away for a month, working on a project in Ika Local Government Area.

After a morning prayer session with my family, seeking blessings and success for my work, I bid them farewell and arrived at my master's house by 7:30 am, ready to embark on our journey.

The vehicle we used for our journey.

After a 15-minute wait, my master returned, and I was pleased to see that he was impressed by my punctuality. I swiftly loaded the necessary materials, including POP sponge, into the Toyota vehicle. With everything in order, we headed to the junction to pick up the rest of the team, ready to tackle the day's tasks.

Waiting inside the car for other workers.
I withdrew some money here.

We arrived at the junction, but unfortunately, the other workers were running late. I waited patiently inside the vehicle until they finally arrived. Before hitting the road, we decided to withdraw some cash, just in case we wouldn't have access to a POS point in Ika Local Government Area, our destination. With our finances in order, we set off on our journey.

Refilling our vehicle tank.
Buying materials .

After a 20-minute drive, our vehicle's fuel tank ran dry, prompting my master to pull over at a nearby filling station. We refueled with 20 litres of petrol and then made a quick stop at a building materials store to pick up essential supplies, including concrete nails. With our vehicle replenished and our materials in hand, we resumed our journey to Ika Local Government Area, driving non-stop from there.

The journey from Uyo to Ika Local Government Area was a lengthy one, taking us around 3 hours to arrive. However, the trip didn't feel dull, thanks to the lively music playing in the vehicle and the entertaining conversations with my coworkers. Their humorous banter and jokes helped pass the time, making the long journey feel more enjoyable.

This is the site we'll be working for one month.

After a 3-hour drive, my curiosity was finally satisfied as we arrived at the site. I was greeted by a 2-storey building, and it was clear that we had a significant amount of work ahead of us. Without delay, my master and I got started, and my first hands-on experience with POP work began.

Despite our late arrival, we made good progress, and here's a snapshot of what we accomplished...

1000617019.jpg1000616137.jpg
Selecting POP Sponge.
Taking accurate measurement.
1000616139.jpg1000616144.jpg
Casting and hanging.
We mould multiple POP plains.

Selecting another bag of POP Sponge.
We fixed the study room.

Today was a challenging but rewarding day. Selecting POP sponge was a daunting task, and I managed to complete two bags of it. Running errands for the workers was exhausting, but I didn't let the stress get to me. My future goals kept me motivated, and I'm confident that I'll achieve them.

Our outdoor kitchen.
The cooked rice.

After a long day, we prepared dinner by setting up a makeshift outdoor kitchen and cooking rice. This marks the beginning of my POP adventure, and I'm excited to share my progress with you all.

I'd like to thank Ma'am @ngoenyi and @bossj23 for their kind wishes on WhatsApp. I wish myself the best of luck as well. For now, I'll sign off and get some rest. Tomorrow promises to be another eventful day.....Goodnight. ☪️
