My Weekly Powerup | #club100 | Reunion with the island of Rodrigues, Mauritius

Mauritius is a fairly well-known tourist destination, located in the Indian Ocean. This tropical island is a dream destination for many holidaymakers. Rodriques is an even smaller island, that is part of Mauritius, and located about 580 kilometers from the main island. The location in the Indian Ocean makes it quite isolated and in a way «off the beaten track». But if you visit Mauritius and have the time, it is worth paying Rodrigues a visit. In a few weeks I will be travelling to Mauritius again, to stay for three month. Since I have plenty of time, I will take the time to pay Rodrigues a visit too. It's ten years since last time. That's why all the photos in this post are taken ten years ago.

This small island has a lot to offer those who make an effort of getting here. The island is mountainous with unspoiled, beautiful nature. The beaches are gorgeous and with few tourists, you have lots of space to yourself. The island is a great place to go for hikes because of the landscape. Lots of trails are already well trotten by the locals. From the mountain ridge in the middle of the island you get a great view all around.

When driving you will see farmland, domestic animals and small farms. People are working in the fields or hanging octopus to dry in the sun. Fishing boats are seen everywhere along the coast. One of the popular species from the sea is Octopus. A very popular dish on the island is therefor an Octopus salad called «ourite salad». Then there is the main city – in a way it's the capital, which is a charming small town, filled with life. Kitesurfing is also one of the more popular activities. Many of the fishermen will like to take those who are interested on board their boat for a trip. Or you can take a boat to an even smaller, uninhabited island. I am very much looking forward to go back.
