Road to the rangkaya intersection
The afternoon atmosphere around Simpang Rangkaya approaching the time to break the fast always presents a unique and colorful view. The hustle and bustle of the activities of local residents is increasingly felt, as if all life in this city is gathered in one point. The sun that is starting to lean to the west illuminates the streets that are crowded with vehicles and pedestrians. The air mixed with the aroma of food from street vendors and vehicle exhaust creates a typical Ramadan nuance that can only be felt at certain times.
Traffic jams around the Rangkaya intersection are commonplace at times like this. Motorcyclists and car drivers bid each other farewell, trying to find a gap so they can go faster. Occasionally, the sound of horns can be heard, adding to the noisy atmosphere. On the sidewalk, pedestrians pass by, most of them carrying plastic bags filled with food and drinks to break their fast. Some people look in a hurry, perhaps because the time for Maghrib is getting closer and they want to get home or to the place to break their fast as soon as possible.
traffic jam in the afternoon
Takjil traders line the streets, offering a variety of typical Ramadan dishes. Banana kolak, cendol ice, sweet martabak and fried foods are the favorites that are always sought after. Buyers seem busy choosing, while sellers deftly serve customers who come and go. "Is there still fruit ice, bro?" shouted a buyer to the trader who seemed overwhelmed serving the demand.
In another corner, children run around with cheerful faces, impatiently waiting for the time to break their fast. Some of them are seen enjoying this moment by playing odong-odong which is always a special attraction for families. The sound of music from the toy mixes with various other sounds, creating a unique symphony of Ramadan.
As time passed, the sky began to change color, from orange to purplish blue. The seconds before the Maghrib call to prayer became increasingly thrilling. Some people chose to sit on the side of the road or in a small park near the intersection. Waiting for the time to break the fast while having light conversation. When the call to prayer finally sounded, all activities seemed to stop for a moment. Drivers who were still on the road immediately pulled over to measure mineral water or enjoy a date or cake. Faces that were previously tired now turned bright, feeling the pleasure of breaking the fast after a day of holding back thirst and hunger.
