Hello, traveling friends!

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I want to continue telling you about my day spent in the city of Mantova in Lombardy.

I had been planning this visit for quite some time to this city, which is rich in history and art, as I told you yesterday, and hides some very interesting museums that, among other things, can be visited completely free of charge on the first Sunday of every month. This is a wonderful initiative from the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, as it provides the opportunity for larger families, who would otherwise pay a high entrance fee, to visit these places.

A very fascinating location in the central Piazza Sordello in Mantova is the National Archaeological Museum of Mantova, a place that collects archaeological finds from excavations in the Mantova area, but not only that. It definitely offers visitors the chance to take a true journey through time across different historical eras, from prehistory to protohistory, from the Neolithic period to the Roman period, leading up to one of the most important periods in the history of Mantova, which is the medieval period.

Those who follow me will know that I have already visited other archaeological museums around Italy. I found this museum to be not very large, but it has been made quite modern with technology, and it spans two floors. It is practically always open except on Mondays, while on Sundays it is open in the afternoon, except for the first Sunday of the month when entrance is free and it is open in the morning.

During my visit, I was able to see significant tombs dating back 5,000 years, and they were very impactful from an emotional standpoint, even though I had already seen some in other archaeological museums.

I saw numerous tools used for the production of bronze jewelry, as well as jewelry from other parts of the world, such as the Middle East and the island of Cyprus, which tell a bit of the history of Italy and the peoples that have been in Italy.

This museum was inaugurated in 1998 and is located in a part that was always part of the Ducal Palace complex of the Gonzaga family, one of the most important families that ruled Mantova.

I hope the photos I shared were interesting. It was a lovely visit, as usual, because it allowed us to discover our history, and it is important to preserve this for future generations.

See you in my next post, and I wish you all a good day!

Very nice to make it completely free of charge on the first Sunday of every month! This looks like a really interesting museum to visit, especially the archaeology section. 🌸
