I would like to thank the management team of Traveling Steem for organising such an interesting contest. I'm delighted to participate. I also invite three fellow Steemians to participate @paholags @eveetim @daprado1999

Where you went during the year of 2023? What activities were carried out?

This year, we decided to visit the Ichamati immersion of Durga idol. Ichamati is a river that acts as a border between India and Bangladesh. So Hindus from both countries submerge goddess Durga Maa along with her children Laxmi, Ganesh, Saraswati, and Kartik on Dashami at the end of Puja. In single Chala status, they all build into one structure, which is easier to handle.

It was a one-day round trip from Kolkata to Taki in North 24 Parganas' neighboring district. It's just 70 km away from Kolkata.

On the way to Newtown, we visited one pandal where we saw for the first time all female worshippers (Purohit) offering puja to goddess and chanting hymns in the community Durgotsab. One may watch a one-minute video. 👇

After 35km we reached Chandraketugarh (currently known as Barachampa), an archaeological site in Bengal. It is called Khana-Mihirer-Dhipi, the ruins of an establishment between 400 and 800 BC.

A museum has been built with different statuses and relics collected from ruins. Photography inside the museum was prohibited.

As we move towards Basirhat, suddenly a deliapated Dhanyakuria Rajbari (or Zamindarbari, Castle Village of Bengal) appeared on the roadside, which was built in mid-1800. It was built by a Bengali Jute marchant for the amusement and entertainment of East India Company officials.

After two hours, we reached the bank of Ichamati. Traffic towards the riverside was diverted to the other side. So we have to come to the river bank via Hasnabad.

Idols are brought on motorized or manual boats. People from the neighborhood or the houses are watching idols from a small, floating launch boat. There are many boats lined up with anchors right in the middle of the river. Some of the boats were flying the Indian national flag, and others had the national flag of Bangladesh. The other side of the bank is Bangladesh. The Border Security Force of both the countries are making rounds on speed boats. On the bank, people lined up, beating Dhak (drums) and Kasha (like school bells) at a stretch. It was a spectacular view in the setting sun. One may watch my two-minute video. 👇

Have you planned a budget for it? How much you spent during the trip?

It wasn't done for such a short trip. I was picked up and dropped off at my doorstep by my friend Malli.

Are you thinking about to make an amazing travel in 2024? Which would be the selected place?

I have decided to go to the Himalayas again after a gap of 8 years. Like last time in 2016 (Thimphu Bhutan), this time it is not a trekking expedition.

I missed visiting the place just a distance of 4 km from Ghangaria (3,050M) where we arrived unplanned from Badrinath to visit Hemkund Sahib (4,329M). It is none other than Valley of Flowers (3,600M) which has been on my bucket list for the last 38 years. Now there are helicopter services from the nearest roadhead, Gobindghat. Those who are able to trek only 4km need not ride on a pony.

I wish you all a happy new year. 🎇
