Dear friends,

My Trip to a Museum -Biog Foot Goa |
---|
Last 2017 year we went on Goa tour with family then we went to Big Foot museum in Goa which is one of the rarest museums in India, this "Big Foot" is a way of explaining the lifestyles of British and Portuguese and Indians who ruled India. A day is not enough to visit this museum. Because many things have been collected here, and the idols have been made theoretically realistic in a way that is easy for the viewer to understand.
There is a ticket charge for enter in to the museum, it's been many years we visited and I don't remember how much they charged. There was a huge statue of a guard at the entrance gate, made with portugese style. It was looking amazing. My husband and son stood in front of it and posed for me to take their photo. After that we all went inside.
During the eighteenth century, many statues were designed and displayed depicting the lifestyle, trade, and industry of the people of Goa. One of them featured a statue of two attendants carrying palanquins meant to carry royal ladies. It looked realistic and like real people.
After visiting it, we moved to the next scene where there was a pond-like structure and the event of children diving and swimming in it was realistically designed as a statue. At that time, how clean the water was without pollution and how happy the people were, this statue design was an example. Especially in this design, nature was shown so beautifully that we were amazed.
At another place, to the delight of the children, their favorite cartoon "Chota Beem" was placed in the form of figurines with a hole on the side of the face in which the children placed their faces and took photographs. Our kids also went there and stood back and showed their faces in the hole and we photographed them.
Then we moved on to another place where there was a design of a shepherd herding goats. In those days, people used to dress to control the heat while tending goats. As an example of how much they were at one with nature, these idols were shaped like goats and looked like real goats. Its color and that of the shepherd were all designed very realistically
While looking at taking photos, my daughter took a selfie with everyone and we were all included in it. My son was a child and he was not self-conscious about selfies, so he couldn't pose. He cried and urged his dad to lift him up ... it was funny
In those days there were these statues where women were doing housework and men were doing work like industry and agriculture and one of the statues was a teenage girl carrying a water jug on her head surrounded by natural vines and it was very beautiful and realistic to see.
On the other hand, farmers were designed to peel their harvested coconuts and extract the coconuts from them, which revealed that agriculture was the main industry in Goa and coconut tree cultivation was a very specialized industry such as coconut production.
Similarly, the statue depicts a woman walking home with her baby on her hip and a water pot on her head, with a goat grazing there as she walks.
Similarly, another scene of a woman washing clothes on the bank of a river, with a natural environment in the background, and children playing in the water, has been beautifully sculpted.
As an example of how children used to play such games in those times, there were many idols of children playing, one of which was beautifully designed of children playing Kabaddi, and the idols were very realistic to look at.
Apart from agriculture, fishing is the main industry in Goa because the sea area around Goa is very large and there are many fishermen and fishing villages there, a statue of fishermen carrying their fishing nets was erected to illustrate this.
Similarly, a statue of a fisher woman carrying fish in a basket on her head and selling fish on the street was designed, in which the women of that time were dressed and how they wore their clothes while doing business.
Goa was ruled by the Portuguese and Dutch during the eighteenth century. So the British and the Portuguese lived there. Since bread was a staple food for them, the statue was designed to describe how bread was made and sold, showing a woman stacking bread in her shop.
Similarly, another shop-like structure was modeled as a statue of a merchant selling sweetmeats and weighing them. The shop also had statues of people buying sweets. As there were children in those idols, my son was looking at them with interest, when I took a picture of them, my son was like an idol. Their work was so amazing that we couldn't tell the difference between idols and humans.
The idols were made to illustrate that the men after work used to relax and have fun smoking for pleasure and having Hukkah etc. This idol was designed to show one person using a Hukkah while women were shown doing housework and cleaning grains.
We all know that in those days there were no motor vehicles and people depended on animals for transport. Statues of animals were also placed to illustrate it. A statue of a bull lying down was beautifully designed. It was realistic to watch.
Goa is at sea level so it is very hot and humidity is high. In those days common people did not have the opportunity to have a refrigerator. Therefore, they used glass containers for drinking water. In order to keep the containers cool, they have been used to insulate them by wrapping cloths and ropes around them. The glass containers were placed there for viewing.
We all know that in those days there was no electricity and they used oil lamps. So such a big oil lamp was placed on top of it with a glass vase which was very beautiful and amazing to see. We all know that in those days there was no electricity and they used oil lamps so a big oil lamp was placed on top of it with a glass vase which was very beautiful and amazing to see.
Since the British and Portuguese were in Goa, there was a lot of Christianity and Christians, and their rooms were specially decorated and used with pictures of Jesus Christ and Mary for worship. Similarly showcases made of Burma teak, dressing table with many beautiful carvings were placed there.
Apart from that there was also a strange kerosene lit petromax lamp. Also there was a very beautifully designed statue of an angel
Also there was a statue of a potter making a pot and stacking his pots and a woman painting small pots and there was also a wine barrel on view for their use at the time.
In one room there was a collection of Christian religious paintings which were beautifully painted and looked new even now, their frames were decorated and fitted with expensive wood, especially Jesus Christ and Mary alone were found in abundance. In another room, the bullock cart and horse cart used by them at that time were displayed.
Similarly in one room the plow they used for farming and the brass and copper utensils spoons and lids used in their kitchen were kept on display.
The spoons they used in the kitchen were different kinds of spoons made of wood and metals were on display one of the most amazing things was the refrigerator used by the government family at that time a very rare refrigerator was on display the compressor was very big and the cooler was very small.
Hindus and Christians coexisted in Goa, and idols of Ganesha and other gods used by Hindus were on display, particularly Ganesha idols. They were design design and color color. Some were made of glass. Some were made of crystals. Some chests were made of stones. Everything was so beautiful and awesome to see.
Similarly, the compasses, clocks, salt jars used by the Portuguese at that time are on display. There was a large long dining table that was prepared to seat around 50 people at a time. Decorative lamps were hung above it. It was completely designed to host a party.
The royal family of that time was in touch with the kings of other countries and in that way the representatives of countries like China and Burma Korea and the gifts they gave when they met the kings and representatives were displayed here including a Chinese statue and a flower vase, which was very beautiful to see.
Similarly, the furniture, mirrors and decorative lamps used by the government family were displayed there, all of which were very luxurious and beautifully crafted.
The dining tables were designed very beautifully especially they were rectangular and circular and the seats were very luxuriously designed with cushions and placed in view and everyone sat on them and took photos.
Thus the "BIG FOOT" museum in Goa that we visited was very beautiful and informative and very useful to know and learn. I have already posted some of the photos I took in this museum in some articles on STEEMIT. Since this article is entirely about the museum, I have used a lot of pictures.
I hope you will enjoy reading this article so please leave your comments in my comment section.

What an absolutely lovely post @jyoti-thelight <3
There is just so much to take in, but what a wonderful day of exploring! The history, architecture and some nature fun for the kids too. Sounds like a very, very busy day... but an AWESOME one!
I used to take my son @judethedude to museums often when he was much younger, but I have not been in years. One of the things I loved most in our local museum was also all the statues and how they "mimic" real life scenarios of how things were back then. It sort of steps you inside a time capsule!
Being an avid foodie myself, I also really enjoy seeing all the old kitchen utensils. I often go scratching around vintage shops to see if I can find some old gems for my own kitchen!
Sounds like a fantastic adventure all round!
