Lalbagh Fort is in the Lalbagh neighborhood of old Dhaka, on the banks of the Buriganga River, southwest of the capital. Although Emperor Aurangzeb had intended to build Lalbagh Fort, it was his son Prince Azam who began work in 16 AD. Lalbagh fort was once known as Aurangabad fort or Aurangabad fort. He halted construction of the fort after the death of Iran Dukhat Paribibi, Subedar Shaista Khan's daughter, in 164 AD. The city of Aurangabad was renamed Lalbagh in 1844. The name of the fort was also changed to Lalbagh Fort, along with the name of the area.
