I live in the US Mountain West. Prickly pear cactus has thorns, but I never thought of it is a pest.
It is amazing how people create huge problems when they take seemingly innocuous plants out of one ecosystem and place the plant in other ecosystems.
While I see the prickly pear as a just a fun cactus, our mountainsides are being destroyed by plants that people transplanted from around the world.
