You have clicked the post because this idea made you excited just like it made me too.

Earning Steem Power (SP) and Steem Based Dollars (SBD) with your posts is good. Buying Steem and powering it up is better to increase the reputation and monetary value of Steem. But being able to use Steem on daily expenses without the need to withdraw to a fiat currency is even better in the long run. A new question mark may show up in your mind now: How?

A healthy cryptocurrency has a well-planned faucet (how newly created coins are distributed) and unclogged sinks (possibilities you can use your coin).

For example, earning SP and SBD rewards from your post on Steem is an example of a faucet. If a service accepts STEEM or SBD as payment, this represents an example of a sink. I remember that a cloud infrastructure service was accepting STEEM as a payment method for witnesses. This is also a good example of a currency sink.

Tesla & Bitcoin Case

Do you remember that Elon Musk said that Tesla will accept Bitcoin as a payment method? This news sky-rocketed the price of bitcoin. And it encouraged many investors to invest in Bitcoin.

You may be thinking that creating more facilities to spend a coin will decrease the price. You may also think that this will discourage people from staking (power-up) their coins.

Actually, the reality is the exact opposite of this thought!
We’re sure on this subject. Bitcoin is not the perfect coin. But it has numerous (sinks) possibilities to use as a payment method. This situation increases its reputation along with its price.

When you buy something with your STEEM Coins, this amount will be transferred to the seller’s wallet without leaving the Steem ecosystem. The idea behind Steem Power is also holding money inside the ecosystem. Did you get the point?

Think that you can buy a car, a sandwich, or some clothes with your STEEM without decreasing its price.

Another behavior of Steem payment solutions will be its worldwide acceptance. You won’t be needed to convert your currency several times to spend on a service or good from another country. Therefore exchange fees will stay in your pocket.

We should discuss and create requirements for Steem Payment Solutions Project.
It’s written on Steem.com FAQ that there is not an interface for selling items on steemit.com. Creating an e-commerce interface from scratch may not be the best solution. Giving an opportunity to the current popular e-commerce solutions to use STEEM as a viable payment method may be better.

E-commerce has never seen these volumes of trading before. Many payment solutions have a payment infrastructure and widgets for commerce scripts to communicate with it.
Creating an e-commerce website is not the thing we need in my opinion. But creating payment widgets for current popular shopping scripts (like WooCommerce, Shopify, Magento, etc.) will provide new opportunities for entrepreneurs who would like to accept Steem as a payment method. This means many potential clients for these merchants. Many places that accept Steem means we can use Steem in our daily lives without withdrawing and decreasing the value (price and reputation).

Tell us what you think about this subject.

What other payment solutions can be implemented to promote using Steem?

Steem Debit Cards?
Steem commerce sandboxes to help developers create Steem based trade solutions?
General-purpose β€œPay with Steem Page” to help non-dev merchants get payment for virtual and physical goods.
POS machine function to approve payment made by Steem Payment Solution.
Else?

What pros and cons of creating payment infrastructure and widgets for Steem can be?

Hearing the thoughts of our witnesses (@steemchiller, @justyy, and others) would be really helpful for us to improve this idea based on real technical requirements.

Thoughts of the entrepreneurs & leaders on the Steem platform will lead us to create strategic products to create value for Steem. I want to mention them to thank for their opinions. @steemcurator01 @dobartim @xpilar @xeldal @enki @stephenkendal and all the other leaders who would like to guide the project with their ideas.

I like your ideas and how you've presented them in this post. It's really unbelievable that we still don't have such a payment solution for Steem, because it would not be that hard to create actually...

From a technical point of view some requirements come to my mind:

  • Simple (native) android/ios app for storing the own account credentials (active key, encrypted), scanning QR codes and broadcasting the transfer with the required amount (+ invoice id in memo field) to the shop's account.
  • For payments via web browser a simple script that uses Keychain and/or SteemLogin for the transfer (entering the active key on a shop's site should not be allowed for security reasons).
  • For the shop's site a simple script that creates the invoice with QR code / payment details and waits for the incoming transfer (for example, by watching the Steem account history). For handling the valid/invalid payments on the server side, there will be a few more things required that need further plannings.

Thank you for your thoughts and this beautiful descriptive comment.😊 It made me happy to hear that this is possible technically.
My niche idea is to create payment widgets under SteemPay for popular e-commerce scripts.
The complete payment solution (SteemPay) idea belongs to @flysky and @dobartim. They have created Steem Pay Community to manage the development of the project. Thank you for your support πŸ™

Technically it is very easy to make for a programmer, but the project I have in my head after 20 years of such projects is completely different from the simple one. How to attract companies, how to activate users, etc., that is the essence and it is best to do it together, this is not just a programming job, it is more of a business model.

I make a lot of posts about that.
That is one of the visions I want to do these four years.

Yup. This sounds great. However, I've got a couple of concerns related to this.

1- Getting merchants on board: This would require a lot of marketing and should be solvable.
2- The liquidity shortage: When we have a Steem Pay app it would definitely be a highly used feature. To support this demand we would need sufficient liquidity as well. Wouldn't that be a problem? Regarding the conversion to fiat, we need to first convert to another crypto-like Bitcoin or USDT and if the demand for this is high, wouldn't that adversely affect the price of Steem?

Regarding your second point:
I would not go the fiat route and just convert the required $ amount to STEEM based on current market prices. The moment an invoice is created the required STEEM amount will be calculated and stored. So the shop owner would need a Steem account and manage the fiat gateway himself (automating this would be another project), but it would enable zero-fee payments and circumvent any fiat regulations.

Sounds great!

It would be great if you are able to take this idea forward @steemchiller...

With a payment processor, Steem would undoubtedly be taking a great leap ahead of other currencies, something very important is that the community supports this initiative. and according to @steemchiller these would be something simple to do.

Something we could do is promote the Application when it is already running.

Here in Venezuela many Venezuelans use steem to pay the expenses of their daily lives, it would be a good idea to create a kind of application for android called STEEMPAYS something similar to the steem keychain but in android version, these would solve the constant outflow of money from the platform now the problem is:

Could merchants accept steem as a payment method?

I think that if the application is created, it should see a great economic support in advertising in social media so that the application reaches more people, as the saying goes, propaganda is the best strategy to show a product.

With a good marketing campaign I think that a payment application based on steem would be a success. Why do I think about it? For two reasons, the transfers from wallet to wallet are instantaneous and second, there is no commission when making a transfer.

Thank you for sharing your ideas in detail. I agree with you. It can be a successful and sustainable step πŸ‘

Amazing! This would be truly innovative and exciting. I always knew that steem had so much potential and this would just be the beginning. However, such a payment solution would take a little more time to be developed properly but I have faith in this proposal.
