Last week, on the very first day of the new semester, my son brought back a birthday invitation card from school. It was obvious that this card was handmade by a child. My son told me that the class monitor was having a birthday. A total of 12 invitation cards were sent out, probably to all the kids who had a good relationship with him on a daily basis. Our child was also among those invited. The invitation stated that the birthday party would be held on February 15th.
As soon as we received the invitation, we checked our schedule for February 15th and found that there were no classes on that day. So, we agreed to let our son attend the party. Then, we quickly started looking for a birthday gift for that child online. I asked my son what that girl liked. He said that recently, a cartoon character that looked like a little hamster was very popular among classmates. Its name was something like Kaka something Pika, but I couldn't quite remember. So, I found a large hug bucket themed around this animal IP online. It was a big stationery gift box filled with lots of stationery, stickers for making scrapbooks, colored pens, and other items. The packaging was extremely cute and beautiful, so I bought it. My son said that his classmate would definitely love it because she was really into this animal IP.
Finally, February 15th arrived. Their activity plan was that from 2 pm to 6 pm, the children would play games in groups at a certain location. There were games like Werewolf, board games, and also Happy Cube, Monopoly, and other card and board games. There were a total of 12 children, and they could freely form groups. From 2 pm to 6 pm, as soon as those dozen children met, they were extremely excited in the room. The sound of children's laughter and noise could be heard from time to time in the room, as if they were going to lift the roof off.
After 6 pm, they walked together to the dining place. We parents just sent the children there, and then the parents hosting the birthday party took care of all the kids. We made an appointment to pick up the children at the dining place at around 8 pm. Suddenly, I thought this arrangement was really good. Parents didn't need to be involved, and we could have half a day off. The children all wore phone watches throughout the process, so they could contact us immediately if there was anything. Moreover, the activity location was quite close to our home, only about a few hundred meters away, and there were also parents watching over them, so there was nothing to worry about.
They started having dinner at 6 pm and finished at a little past 7 pm. After that, they started playing games again at the entrance of the restaurant. The boys and girls were divided into two camps and seemed to be playing a game called "Mouse Stealing Oil," and they were having a great time.
After 8 pm, the parents who came to pick up the children arrived one after another. The parents all said that they were going to take the children home for a bath right away. Although it was winter, the children had been running around for six hours and were all sweaty. They were worried that the children might catch a cold.
However, those 12 children were really reluctant to part. Each of them shouted, "Just five more minutes, please! Just five more minutes!" They really didn't want to go home.
Finally, after much delay, at 8:30 pm, all the children were picked up by their parents, and this birthday party came to an end.
Even after it ended, everyone still felt that it wasn't enough.
This kind of gathering that was purely among classmates without the participation of adults was actually really great.
