Betterlife - Thediarygame : sunrise on Koh Phangan Island

When was the last time you were really excited to get up at 4:45 am? They say people who sleep too much, people who sleep late; it's a sign of depression. I'm sure we've all been there at some point in our lives. I'm sure we've all had some bad lazy habits before.

It wasn't the first thought that came to mind, how great it would be to wake up early for the sun to rise, but I was determined to do it. I've been on a health kick since arriving on the island not too long ago, and I thought to get up early for bed, let's tune our mind and body to the natural rhythm of the sun and that's what I did.

After catching my first sunrise, I was hooked! It quickly became my favorite part of the day. My friends will invite me to the party and I will politely tell them I don't like them anymore, but you are welcome to watch the sunrise tomorrow with me. They would answer with a laugh and say how about a sunset instead; which we will always agree on.

The morning soon became mine and only mine. Landing on the road at 05:30 every day while it's still dark, sets the tone for the adventures ahead. I would look for stunning beaches and vantage points on the east side of the island. Within 20 minutes of leaving my apartment, I would be hiking through the woods and soon arrived at my perfect photo-chosen location.

It was a quiet and peaceful part of the day. The streets are empty and there is no one around, just me, the beach and the beautiful scenery, waiting for the sun to paint the sky. After taking a few photos and enjoying the sunrise, I often find great places to roll out my matt yoga, play instructional videos on my phone and take a yoga class in the morning.

By the time I finished doing that, it was almost seven in the morning. I then moved on to the adventure I had planned as the sun was about to rise higher bringing the warmth of the day. Whether it's hiking through the woods, exploring new areas on my motorbike, or trekking to the nearest waterfall, mornings are mine and they quickly become my favorite part of the day.

Coming at 11 o'clock the sun is often scorching hot and the temperature continues to rise. Before returning to my air-conditioned apartment to sit outside in the midday heat, I would usually withdraw from the stunning, nice and cool beach of a refreshing swim in the ocean. Not really sure if the actual sunrise is the best part of each morning, but maybe it's the six plus hours I have to myself each day, where the island feels like it really is there just for me. Sunrise is a bonus, and also very nice. Now come and let's see some sunrises on Thailand's Koh Phangan Island!
