Rafael Nadal beats Italian Yannick Siner 7:5, 6:3, 6:0 Nadal secures a place in the French Open quarter-finals for the 15th time
Rafael Nadal reached the French Open quarter-finals for the 15th time on Monday with straight sets victory over Italy's Yannick Siner. Third seed Nadal beat 19-year-old Sinner 7-5, 6-3, 6-0 and continues to face tenth seed Diego Schwartzman of Argentina, who won the semifinals last year. Nadal has won 104 games against just two defeats since his Roland Garros debut in 2005, while Monday's win extended his straight sets record to 35 in Paris.
The 35-year-old Spanish number 3 will face Novak Djokovic in the semifinals.
The world's first Djokovic beat compatriot Sinner, Lorenzo Musetti, who had to give up in the fifth set, and wowed the Serb with the first two sets.
"I started well, but I defended a bit too much. I gave him the opportunity to come in and play his best shot. It was a mistake," said Nadal.
"I lost 5-4 in the first set and then the game changed. I played at a great level," he said.
Nadal beat Sinner 2020 in the quarter-finals in Paris and at this year's Italian opener.
Sinner, who is seeded 18th, led 5:3 in the first set, but it was as good as Nadal who has qualified with 16 of the last 19 games.
He scored 31 winners, with the Italian only collecting 10 points in the third set
