Fungi time!
I still didn't find the right juice to cook up a rule #3 post for @ewkaws original initiative. It's not like I don't find mushrooms every other day but I seem to lack the time and dedication to take out a real camera and take more than some #smartphonephotography for the daily #actifit spam. So it's just another quick #takemorewalks post on a #fungifriday.
Today's star is a red banded polypore bracket mushroom again. And although we're missing the crisp contrast of some fluffy moss in this scene, I think it still looks quite magnificent with the orange hues of the late afternoon sun glowing in the background.
We've looked at a lot of polypore mushrooms here before, but we've never talked about why they're called that. To find out we have to look at them from below.
Most bracket mushrooms are actually polypores. The underside is not covered with gills like your typical garden mushroom but with lots and lots of tiny little pores... poly-pores
