I’m a big fan of letter press art.
Secretly, I harbor the desire to buy a press, salvage crates full of type, and spend hours in a corner of an old building or warehouse somewhere making posters, cards, invitations, and whatnot.
Since I don’t have a press, or crates of type, I tried recreating the feel of letter press art with pen and ink. From a distance, the look and feel of these posters is quite similar to letter press, but up close, they have a feel all their own.
After looking at this one, which I finished earlier in the year, I began thinking about the expression in it; be the change.
At one point it sounded inspiring to me, like it suggested something a little radical, possibly even enlightened, but today it reminds me of another expression about change—Change is the only constant.
This radically altered the meaning that I have always associated with be the change. Now I tend to think of it as simply meaning be constant, be continuous, which, actually, is probably one of those most radical things you can be.
… And I walked a little today.
