Got a lot of stuff done today. The switch to DST woke me up early, even though I live in Arizona and I don’t actually have DST to deal with. I went back to bed for a while, had a panic regarding the time, and was generally ready to face my day long before I had to be. That turned into productivity, and I hope to keep that up.
I’d written 2500 words by lunch-time, which was a little later today than usual because of the odd scheduling thing and the fact that I wanted to get most of my required work for the day done. I’ve been trying to take Sundays more seriously as a day of rest, but I let myself take most of last week as down-time so I didn’t feel the same need this week.
Besides, because I got my work done so productively–I was definitely in a state of flow–I was able to have quite a bit of leisure time.
I’m now most of the way through revisiting my old articles and a third of the way through Beyond Order, so that should be a good bump of content for the site (not to mention the engaging intellectual exercise). Besides Jordan Peterson’s Beyond Order, I’ve been reading Eric von Kuehnelt-Leddihn’s Liberty or Equality. It’s available for free from the link I’ve given, since the publisher distributes most of their e-books for free from their site.
It’s not a happy read, but I’ve been enjoying it in the sort of way one enjoys reading The Gulag Archipelago. It’s not about the pleasure, it’s about the learning.
It’s amazing how a book written in the 50s can be so eerily prescient. Von Kuehnelt-Leddihn formulated his thesis during his time in exile during the Nazi occupation of Austria, so it’s not exactly a product of the post-war period so much as a consolidation of his prior work. That probably makes it more impressive, rather than less impressive, especially given the risks he took as an outspoken opponent of fascism (he wrote under the pen-name Francis S. Campbell during the war to protect his Austrian relatives).
He’s certainly an interesting thinker, and I hope to finish the book before April.
