My Actifit Report Card: March 17 2021

It’s past my bedtime because I was arguing with someone on the internet (we’re still on speaking terms though, or at least not knock-down drag-out enemies), but I feel like I should still do an update for today.

I’ve been working on the material for a new video to put up on Odysee, but I’ve probably bitten off a little more than I can chew. I’ve been testing a format where I read a script with some slides for directions, but I’m not happy with the presentation software, which has been doing funky things for me.

So I decided I’d do my slides as a PDF in Affinity Publisher and then figure out a way to turn them into a regular presentation (either via a sequence of .png files or some cleverer trick), but that takes a lot more time than I expected and I procrastinated it.

That means that as I revisit my script I’ve been making many little tweaks and changes and really drawing the process out as painfully as possible.

And the kicker is that I don’t even think it looks all that good anymore. I went a little aggressive on the color scheme, so I might redo it with something more tasteful. It’s a purple and orange setup which I chose for being about as visually shocking as it could be without being too garish, but it just makes me think of heartburn medication ads.

So I’m thinking I’ll redo it in a neat mint-green/blue/white color scheme and see if I like that better, though I’m going to have to do some color work to make sure it flows neatly.

Then the rest of my “work” for today was basically on my blogs, since I had two posts to do.

I didn’t get my school assignments done, but some of that’s because I got my feedback on the second draft of the novel I wrote for my MFA. Besides being a cause to celebrate because I’m now very close to graduation, the feedback was positive. I wasn’t fully happy with the draft, but I think I have some ideas of where I want to go in the future to make it work, though I’m not sure if I’m going to start on it soon or put it off until projects like Exoworld are less pressing.

The one thing that I know is that I don’t want it to be my first published novel, because it’s out of genre for me and very much experimental.
