I started writing Aspects of Sand early because I’m feeling a little anxious about finishing it in a month and I want to have plenty of time, and also because I can’t wait.
Despite being really excited to get started, the first bits of the first chapter (a scene I can clearly visualize, no less, which is something like finding a unicorn for me) came out like blood from a stone. I was trying to do this floaty present-tense third-person perspective, and it just wasn’t working. I didn’t want to write in first person because I’m going to get typecast, but it also lets me really explore the protagonist’s voice.
So I’m writing the novel in first person, I guess.
Also did some school-work today. Focused on doing discussion replies to my peers, but I’ve been getting in a good amount of work and reading for so early in the week.
Wrote another piece of my Beyond Order blog series, which is going to wrap up shortly given that I no longer am interspersing it with 12 Rules for Life posts from the old blog. Soon I’ll have to find new sources of content for the blog, but that’s a problem that can wait for when it gets here.
All things considered, I’ve been making great progress on writing. I let myself play some Hearts of Iron 4 while listening to podcasts (including one that was recommended to me during my argument yesterday and which changed my mind; the irony is that it was a statement made by the guy whose position I was taking that sealed the deal better than the other debater, who I found convincing but hadn’t hit every point I needed her to make in order to fully win me over).
Anyway, with that said, I think when I do the final calculations I’ll be close to 5000 words today, which is nothing to sneeze at. If I keep this pace up much longer, I’ll be back on track for the Year of a Million Words project I started and then temporarily abandoned back in January.
