As I walked along the riverbank, I spotted some lovely wildlife—swans gliding on the water and ducks waddling along the edge. The sound of the water gently flowing created a peaceful backdrop as I ventured farther along the trail.
I made my way toward Upper Slaughter, a short distance away. The walk was dotted with rolling hills and fields of sheep, which added to the quintessential English countryside feel. The charming stone cottages in Upper Slaughter were so inviting, and I learned from some locals that many of them date back to the 17th century!
Along the way, I met a couple who were celebrating their anniversary. They were also passionate about history and shared some intriguing tales about the area, including stories of the wool trade that thrived here in medieval times. I found it fascinating how the Cotswolds became wealthy from this trade, leading to the stunning architecture we see in the region today.
As I continued my walk, the sun began to set, casting a golden hue over the fields, and I felt so lucky to experience such beauty. I rounded off my day with a visit to a local pub for some hearty food and a pint of cider, perfect after a long walk. It was a splendid day filled with nature, history, and lovely conversations, reminding me why I adore exploring the hidden gems of England!
