As I walked along the banks of the River Windrush, I spotted some lovely wildlife, including swans gracefully gliding across the water and ducks quacking happily as they paddled along. The autumn leaves were just starting to turn, adding splashes of gold and crimson to the scenery, which was simply breathtaking.
Continuing my walk, I ventured towards Lower Slaughter, a village that feels like a postcard come to life. The old mill there is beautifully preserved, and the sound of the waterwheel brought a sense of nostalgia. I met a couple of local artists sketching the mill. They shared stories about the history of the area, particularly how these villages remained relatively untouched by time, something that’s rare in our fast-paced world.
As I strolled on, I passed through more charming villages like Stow-on-the-Wold and Chipping Campden, each with their own unique character, lovely stone cottages, and historical landmarks. I couldn’t resist stopping at a local tea shop in Stow-on-the-Wold, where I enjoyed a delicious slice of cake and chatted with the owner, who shared tales of the village's role during the English Civil War.
By the end of my walk, I felt a deep appreciation for the rich history and natural beauty of the Cotswolds. It was a thoroughly enriching experience, both in terms of the sights and the lovely people I had the pleasure of meeting along the way!
