As I walked, I was surrounded by rolling hills, fields of golden wheat swaying in the wind, and the iconic dry stone walls that the Cotswolds are famous for. The villages I passed through were quintessentially English, with their honey-colored limestone cottages and vibrant gardens. I particularly enjoyed a lovely spot in the village of Bourton-on-the-Water, where the River Windrush flows through, creating a serene atmosphere.
Along the way, I encountered several fellow walkers, all equally enchanted by the beauty of the trail. One couple I met at a picturesque viewpoint shared stories of their travels throughout England and recommended some hidden gems I had yet to explore. It was lovely to connect with fellow history enthusiasts who appreciated the landscape and its rich heritage.
I also stopped at a local tea room in one of the villages where I indulged in a slice of homemade cake and a pot of Earl Grey. The owner was an elderly gentleman who shared fascinating stories of the area's history, including tales of the wool trade that once thrived in these parts. It was incredible to hear firsthand accounts that brought the history of the Cotswolds to life.
Overall, it was a delightful day filled with beautiful scenery, engaging conversations, and a deeper appreciation for the rich history that surrounds us in the Cotswolds. I can't wait for my next walk—there’s always more to discover!
