From 9:00 a.m. this Wednesday, the Cuban sports movement and the people in general bid farewell to the outstanding judo coach Ronaldo Veitía, who died last Monday, in the Ciudad Deportiva, where he defended the tatami mats so many times.

For several days now, Cuban and world judo have been mourning the death of our esteemed professor Rolando Veitía. He is an example to be followed by the Cuban sports movement and, above all, by the judo family. I carry with me many memories with him. I always had faith in victory. That's what we talked about once in Guantánamo, when the retirement of Driulis González. But, in addition, it is that their forecasts of triumph were fully fulfilled. He knew his students perfectly.

As we all know, Veitía was one of the best coaches who has gone through Cuban judo, recognized even in the hall of fame of this sport. We must remember him as he always was: a splendid person, persevering and consistent in his work. Hence its great results.

Her dedication to work, sacrifice, patriotism and discipline contributed to the historical results of Cuban women's judo during the years she was in charge of the national team.

“We have always had him as that guide, example, who instilled in us technicians the degree of demand necessary to achieve level performances in a combat sport like ours.

“He is a benchmark not only for women's judo, but also for men's. Willing at all times to provide advice, with that unique way of giving himself that he had in the preparations.
