I put in a great run on the Spence Spring trails this morning even though I wasn't feeling too good when I woke up. Felt tired and had an upset stomach that persisted into my run. Fortunately it wasn't enough to sideline me and I cranked out almost 6 hard miles.
We did an easy 2 mile family walk early this morning around our usual loop. Just made a bit of a detour to the Humane Society thrift store for some quick shopping before heading home.
The trailhead parking lot had a decent amount of cars but I crossed paths with just one runner but did meet quite a few cyclists out zipping along the twisting single-track trails.
I struggled initially to loosen up but a slow and easy jogging pace for the first section had me feeling better soon. Then the trail split up and I began a mile and a half winding ascent up to the high point where I finally hit the nice wide open Javelina Trail and cruised downhill until my return trail split off once again.
From here it was a wonderful run among the tall pines and twisted oaks. The trail was easy to follow and the few rocky spots were easy to navigate. I had to pause a few times to let cyclists zip by but soon enough I was at the trailhead and feeling great.
Hopefully my legs are up to some more trail running tomorrow.
