We finally received some real rain last night and intermittently through the day, but I was able to avoid getting wet during my walks and hike.
We woke up before dawn and hit the road early as the sun 🌞 was rising for a pleasant 3 miles. Even though it was Monday the neighborhood was very quiet and peaceful and it was great circling the field under the rising sun 🌄.
I really wanted to do a harder hike so I left Lulu at home and went over to Salida Gulch to hike the moderate single-track loop over the hills. It's a bit over 4 miles with over 450 feet of elevation gain but the trail is very scenic and well worth the effort.
I crossed paths with just one couple in the beginning and then I had the hills to enjoy by myself. There were only a few rocky spots where I had to watch my footing but otherwise I tried to push myself a bit harder and even jog a few bits.
All on all it felt great and I'm really happy to see improvement already 👍👍👍.
I've already just committed to a 24 hour ultra in November down in southern NM (a 4 mile loop around a low mountain).
It's a fat ass run (minimal support and free) so it will be a chance for a lot of hiking miles.
Hopefully I'll do well.
