Sublime Sunday - Tropical Adventure

Our high-horsepower steeds arrived at 8am and we were set for a long day of ridiculous adventure

First stop was the local dive shop of choice. Apparently, you don’t come to Cozumel without diving and who am I to pass up an exotic aquatic tour?

Being a competitive sailboat racer, I love to get out on the water. When it is the clear blue ocean, that is something else entirely! I am not a certified diver but I was able to take a resort diving course with a guide. The coral is fantastic but I am in it for the fish! We saw the cast of finding nemo, along with a big stingray, an angry little eel, some jellyfish and a 3-meter long nurse shark up close. Awesome.

You work up a thirst after an excursion like that so next up was a little lunch. We found a cervesaria that boasted locally-brewed IPA and empanadas. Though we have caved and quaffed a few standard Mexican beers, it is fantastic to find a couple craft breweries pumping out Ipa on a remote island like Cozumel.

Next up, we mounted our intimidating hogs and rode the northern main road for as far as it went. Amazing that there is such a long stretch of concrete headed out into nowhere potentially in preparation for new investors who would line the mainland facing coast of the island with hotels and condos.

We chugged a pint where the road turned to gravel, split quickly so the tiny mosquitos would give us malaria, and dodged bats on the way into town as the sun set.

Back to town for a few more of those fantastic tacos and craft beer close to our place. There was quite a bit of ridiculous dumbassery between these last 2 pics but I may save that tale for another day, when we are back home and reminiscing.

2 days in a row at over 10k steps is something I have rarely done. So happy to be discovering a far away place while doing that.
