The adventure continues as the excursion of the day is cenote diving! Here on the Yucatan peninsula, there are sink holes that have filled over time with rain water and make for a great place to swim and cool off.
Our group toured by bus for approximately 45 minutes to throw on our life jackets and swim into the first cave.
The cenotes number in the thousands and all share the same water, which is fresh but has 20% of the salinity of ocean water. Some are hesitant to dive in and swim through the caverns but it is not that scary!
The images are a little fuzzy because of the low light and waterproof phone case but you get the idea. The cave is quite deep (5-10 meters?) and the ceiling comes down to about a foot in places. Bats and little fish call it home and we are just passing through.
It really is a site to behold and an experience worth having. A little tourista, a bunch of stunning nature, and over 7500 steps even though most of the journey is swimming.
