I swore that whenever I reached 10k steps, I would share a story. None have been as exotic as the one I tell today from sunny Malta! What better way to spend the day than at the beach in a country across the globe?
Malta really is a big rock south of the boot-shaped Italy, in the middle of the sea. While there are many sandy beaches, there are probably more of them that are rocky like these ones. The locals enjoy them just fine and so did we.
It was a sunny 36 Celsius today which is rather hot by Canadian standards. I am not sure I can recall seeing even one cloud in the few days here so far. Today was no different.
Today, we are in more of a tourist area known as St Paul’s Bay to the tourists…Bugibba by the locals. Many of the older buildings are being torn down and built up as condos or apartments. Plenty of foreign investment, air b&bs and plenty of tourists.
We are the guest of a relative who happens to be a Michelin rated chef who put on one hell of a spread last night. He recommended Ciba as the best pizza in town. With a pedigree like that, you take his recommendation seriously. I collected a few shots and share a full @tasteem style review in the next while.
Of course I enjoyed a couple beers on a hot vacation day. There is a stark absence of craft beer in my travels so far but I will stay the course and sniff it out before I leave. In the meantime, a few more watery iconic Malta lagers while touring, dining and relaxing is better than the best beer while working.
Join me tomorrow on the next leg of our journey as we board a ship to motor to one of the other islands for some swimming and more sight seeing. Maybe a beer or 5!
