A cherry hello to fellow members of the Steem Venezuela family. My best weekend wishes to us all.

So here comes my own bread day celebration in the form of contest participation organised by @anasuleydy with such an amazing title "That bread that reminds me of my childhood. I refused to be left out in this supposed fun-filled contest. Let's dive into it.

Foreword

About bread:

Bread as a type of food has been part of human history for so many years. There's no mistake in choosing a special day for the World Bread Day celebration considering how much it's loved by many around the world.

It has been part of many cultures' diets around the world even though the ingredients used in baking bread aren't much, yet still affordable. The main ingredients in baking bread are just flour and water, but depending on the desired taste, other ingredients that can be added are honey, yeast , salt, organic cane sugar , wheat, etc.

Both children and adults love bread. I personally do too. In this post, I'll share with you all about

Selfie with my now favorite bread

While growing up as a child, we loved bread to the core. My siblings and I always waited patiently for our mom to come back from the market. The thing is that she always returns with bread. She never disappoints us any day. This made us look forward to the next market day with eagerness. Infact we used to pronounce the name incorrectly as in "Beledi" instead of Bread. This is the height at which we loved bread, we cared 'less' about the name but 'much' about the availability.

Today, different types of bread are being produced by different bakeries with their respective tastes unlike in the olden days where only few types of bread were in circulation. Among the many sorts of bread today, of which reminds me most about my childhood is called "Dominion Special Bread" herein .

This Dominion Special Bread has almost the same taste and looks just like popular Agege Bread we use to enjoy during our childhood.

The bread I ate when I was little, how it was been prepared

About Agege Bread:

Agege Bread was initially called "Shackleford bread" . Until then, as far back as in 1913, a man from Jamaica came to Lagos, a very popular city in my country Nigeria, and started a bread baking business, the first in Nigeria. A business that earned him the nickname "The Bread King of Nigeria". Shackleford was doing quite well in his new baking business, supplying bread in the whole of Agege area of Lagos and this was how the people renamed the bread "Agege Bread"
Agege Bread was the only bread as of then that was loved by many around the city of Lagos and many parts of Nigeria.

Until today Agege Bread is still in circulation in many parts of the country. It's still loved by many (not me again) though it's an olden bread .The bread is mostly very low in fat. The sweetness is of honey rather than sugar. The bread is also very high in fiber and can be a very good source of protein too. It is a white soft type of bread that's being made from a rich but low yeast dough.

I've learnt that, Agege bread's low yeast dough takes some time to rise, as long as up to a day when slow-proofed in the fridge, this helps in developing the dough' favor.

  • How it was served:

Recreating the dipping bread in water method

I have to be precise here. My siblings and I use to serve Agege Bread in such a unique way actually, so locally yet we enjoyed it.
As far back as 20 years ago, the popular way of us serving Agege Bread was just chewing it with fried groundnut or rather chewing only the bread.

As time went on, we discovered a local way of serving it better, a method we described as "Tii Sha Beledi" meaning, Tea with bread. It wasn't really tea but water mixed with sugar, only the rich kids were abled to have access to real tea. The dipping of bread in the water mixed with sugar was something we loved, the feelings was simply heavenly.

Nowadays, I love eating bread with different combinations; it can be with noodles, beans and much more.

Who was with me while eating this bread? Still interested in Agege Bread

Who was with me? Who served?

My siblings and I were all great lovers of Agege bread . We both enjoyed it together when given to us by our mom. She never prepared it herself for once, she rather bought it in the market for us.

Still interested ?

The truth is that, Agege Bread in still in circulation and it's still loved by some people but not me again. My reason for not being interested in it again is regarding nowadays Agege Bread are being made. Now, the bread is known as the most strongest bread that doesn't even dissolve quickly when eating, one big reason that made many to despise it now.

Conclusion

Ain't just interested in my most loved olden bread again, that doesn't mean I'm not interested in bread generally. I will forever love bread. I do eat bread of any sort, either made from honey or sugar, but my noft preferred type of bread is soft and slightly sweet one.

Hoping to read other people's version of bread story too.

I invite @jesutosin, @saater @ekpe1 to participate in this contest
