Christmas is one period in a year most Christians look up to for the birth celebration of their Lord and Savior. This celebration has also been widely recognized even by non-Christians, not because they want to but because of the holidays that either keep them off duty or allow them to make more earnings for being on duty.
Many at times do no longer remember the reason for the season, but for clarity, it is for the celebration of the birth of our Lord's Saviour, and this should simply come with acts of love and charity. We should significantly show love while celebrating this moment through our acts and activities.
During childhood, the Christmas celebration was something unique and desirable for us. I remember that every Christmas day, we eat different varieties of food, especially rice. This meal isn't prepared by us but rather an act of kindness from neighbors. I can visualize how my mom. I would dish rice, stew, and meat in a bowl and pass it to each of the neighbors. And this was also seen reciprocated by the neighbors.
These were simply acts of kindness that emulated the love we should have for our neighbors. You can only trust your neighbor before going through such. For your neighbor to accept that food and consume the same with the family, simply show love and trust.
Another thing I also remembered we do is visit all our friends on that day. Before this was done, we should know that we would have bought some new clothes and shoes. In doing so, we move from one friend's place to another in anticipation of nothing in return. The aim is to visit our friends and showcase our outfits for those who didn't see us. 😀
However, comparing this with what we have now, I do not see any of those mentioned acts above. Everyone looks like a suspect to each other. There is love and trust lost among everyone. No one is sure of the good deeds of the other even when they meant well. Things fall apart! Not just that, the level of hardship and difficulty have made such kind gestures restricted.
What we see is a situation where parents take their wards to playgrounds or ceremonial events for fun. The kids would have all the day to enjoy themselves with the food and drinks available for their comfort.
We also see a situation where travel to the village and vacation to cities or abroad for the yuletide season.
In summary, Christmas is a good moment to share love juat like our lord has demonstrated. We should love our neighbours juat like we love ourselves.
