Hi steemians,
Today I will tell you about my visit to the island of Djerba for a day, accompanied by a friend last week. Between discussions and discovery of Djerba, we spent a very rewarding day. The streets of Djerba are calm... And despite everything, it's nice to visit them and feel alone in the world, or almost.
We started with the Ghriba Synagogue. This synagogue can be considered one of the best preserved Jewish buildings in the Arab world. The Jewish community of Djerba is important, especially in the village of Erriadh located a few meters from the synagogue.
You will first pass a security check and then arrive at the La Ghriba complex with the synagogue on the left and the pilgrims' guesthouses on the right.
This building is of little interest. Inside the synagogue, the chandeliers and mostly blue earthenware are the beauties of the first room and the second is that of the prayers where an offering is asked of you. The visit lasts approximately 30 minutes. Here is the interior of the synagogue.
Close to the Ghriba, the village of Erriadh is known for its street art district of Djerbahood, I have already written an article about this visit, or, more precisely, by the urban art artists who have expressed themselves in Erriadh as part of the Djerbahood project. Indeed, Djerbahood is not a neighborhood but a project!
At each street corner, we discover a new painting, a new work. The colors and styles of each of these works of art blend perfectly with the Djerbian architecture, the white walls, the blue doors and shutters. This village is simply incredible, the calm contrasts with the bright colors of the works, we are hypnotized. I could have spent hours there!
Then, let's go to Guellala. This city offers a double interest. The first is the Guellala Museum. It presents the Djerbian culture through its customs, costumes, traditions, activities, legends, etc.
Marriage occupies an important place, but not only. You will see for example the artisanal production of olive oil, an example of an outdoor bar and even a dromedary chained in spite of himself.
This photo depicts the making of pottery. Admission is set at 6 dinars, to which must be added 3 dinars for photo rights. The visit lasts approximately 1 hour.
We had the chance to visit a pottery workshop, and in particular to go into an underground tunnel still in use today. It was very impressive to go twenty meters underground to see a clay deposit. We were then explained how the clay was worked.
When we passed in front of the port of Djerba and saw its large pirate ships, I couldn't help but think of my Little S. In Djerba, you actually have the possibility of boarding a pirate ship to take a half-day excursion to the island of the pink flamingos. I cannot give you my opinion on this excursion, since we did not do it. But the boats are impressive!
Obviously, in one day, we did not see 10% of the cultural wealth of Djerba. We would have had to stay a little longer to discover more, finally I would to thank all the Djerbians for their warm welcome, my friend for his accompaniement, and Djerba for these beautiful landscapes.
Thank you very much for reading, it's time to invite my friends @chiabertrand , @steemdoctor1 , @irawandedy to participate in this contest.
Best regards,
@kouba01
