Before starting the article, let me start with a common proverb. The proverb is "Greed is sin, death is sin." Greed is a weakness that pushes people away from their morals and values. It can disrupt not only personal life but also social and family life. Greed creates a kind of turmoil in man's mind that makes him blindly pursue his desires. Many times people fail to understand the difference between right and wrong due to greed. As a result, he ends up doing things that bring great harm to his own life and the lives of others.
We see the horrors of greed time and time again in the pages of history and in the lives around us. Our literature also has many examples of the dire consequences of greed. In a folk tale called "A Golden Goose", a farmer loses everything due to greed. Such stories teach us that one never finds lasting happiness by following greed. Rather it leads his life to destruction.
The worst aspect of greed is that it corrupts the character of man. A greedy person only looks out for his own interests and is not concerned about the sufferings of others. He does not hesitate to harm anyone for his own gain. As a result, mistrust and unrest spread in the society. Even in families, greed creates distance in relationships. Many families are broken up, especially due to disputes over property or financial interests.
But it is possible to get rid of this destructive effect of greed, if we learn to control ourselves. A man must know to distinguish between his wants and needs. It is natural to try to meet needs, but the desire for more can never bring happiness. Self-satisfaction, moral education and altruism can free us from greed.
How terrible the consequences of greed, we can understand from the example of nature. Those who over-hunt or plunder natural resources endanger not only themselves but also future generations. Climate change, deforestation, and natural disasters are the result of human greed.
Therefore, we must understand that greed can never bring anything positive in our life. It is like a poison, which slowly damages our soul and society. To attain happiness and peace we must control our greed and choose the path of moderation and renunciation. A person who can keep himself free from temptation of greed is a truly happy person.
