INTRODUCTION

Greetings from @avalanch to my fellow steemians in this entertaining, informative, educative and exciting community!
Being a fan of CHELSEA FOOTBALL CLUB, I feel excited to participate in this contest.

This community has affored us an opportunity to not just to discuss our various national or international remarkable events, but also to assess the importance and the impacts the events have had.

MAY, 25th of every year, marks the world's football day as recognized by the UN (United Nations). This anniversary/awareness day was being celebrated on the 25th of May 2024,* marks the 100 football tournament celebration in all parts of the world. The 1st celebration of this day took place in Paris on MAY 25th, 1924 during the summer olympic games that held there.

WHY THE WORLD'S FOOTBALL DAY IS CELEBRATED:

The United Nations, having seen the role and impact that football has made, came up with a resolution on MAY 7, 2024, declaring that MAY 25th of every year should be recognized and set aside for the celebration of football around the globe.

The following bodies promotes the world's football day:

  • The United Nations (UN)

  • The FIFA

  • The Confederation Of African Football (CAF)

  • The Nigerian Football Association (NFA)

Description:

Football is a round leather object having smooth surface. It is being played around within the field with legs by teams in a football match. A goal is scored when a player kicks the ball into the goal post.

The goal Post represents the scoring point in a football match between teams. The winner in a football match is decided by the number of goals scored intro goal Post.

THE ROLES/IMPORTANCE OF FOOTBALL

The important role that football has, can not be underrated. People and persons from an unknown entities, have become legends courtesy of the football game.

Below are some of the important roles of football in the world:

  • Promotion of health and wellness:

The game of football is a game that engages the participants into a serious exercise. This helps to stretch the muscles, strengthen the bones, and the regulation of blood in human system. In it enhances physical fitness.

  • Economic empowerment:

The game of football is now an occupation that engages many people in either a part time or full time job. Health professionals like doctors, nurses, football coaches, football players, cooks, drivers etc, are now sort after to gain employment and be paid for their services rendered.

  • Football game has become a cord that links people of all ages and genders having diverse nationals, cultures, breaks socio-eco comic limitations, and projects a sense of pride and unity.

  • Football serves as a platform for promoting peace, tolerance, solidarity, mutual cohesion, and respect between various nationals or communities.

TOP AFRICAN FOOTBALL LEGENDS

I have selected few out of the many football legends we have in Africa. They include:

ROGER MILLA OF CAMEROON

Roger milla was born on 20th May, 1962 and was one of the best and first African Footballers that gained access to the international football platform. He pioneered his cameroonian team to become the first African team that qualified to reach the world cup semi quarter finals.

His football prowess came to limelight when he moved to France in 1977 at the age of 25. Right there in France, he played in a French club called Valenciannes and scored six(6) in 28 league games in two seasons. In 1979 he joined AS Monaco and played 25 games scoring 5 goals and winning the french league cup in 1980. More of his achievement and records also include the following:

  • Monaco Coup de France in 1979-1980

  • Montpellier division 2 cup in 1986-1987

  • Basttia Coup de France: 1980-1980

  • Africa Cup Of Nations; 1984 and 1988

  • Africa Cup Of Nations best player of the year:1986 and 1988

  • **Africa footballer of the year: 1976 and 1990

  • FIFA World cup bronze boot: 1990

  • Africa Cup winners in 1975

He backed out from international football in 1988.

SAMUEL ETO FROM CAMEROON

Samuel Eto was born on the 10th of March , 1981 and was a professional footballer from cameroon. Eto is one of the outstanding and best African player. During his time as a football player, he won the African best player of the year award four(4) times in the years of 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2010. He retired from football in on 7th September, 2019.

Below are some his other notable achievements while he was a footballer;

  • UEFA Champions League: 2005-2006, 2008-2009.

  • La Liga:: 2002-2003, 2004-2006,2008-2009.

  • Copa del Rey: 2008-2009

  • Seria A: 2009-2010

  • Africa Nations Cup: 2002-2003

  • Olympic Gold Medal : 2000

AUSTIN JAY JAY OKOCHA Okocha: FROM NIGERIA

J.J as fondly called by many, was born on 14th August, 1973. He was professional footballer from Nigeria. He played in the midfield as an attacker.
During his time as a professional footballer, he won the African best player of the year in 2004. Best player of the year 2004-2005 in Bolton Wanderers. Bolton Wanderers football league cup runner up, 2003-2004. Goal of the year award in Germany, 1993. Premier League player of the month award 2003. He backed out from international football in 2008.

DIDIER DROGBA FROM IVORY COAST

Drogba was born on 11th March, 1978. He was a Football professional from Ivory coast. He played center forward as a striker. In the English Premier League, he made 254 appearances, 55 assists, and scored 104 goals, and winning many trophies during his time. Most of his football career was spent on Chelsea Football Club. The trophies and leagues he won while in Chelsea includes:

  • UEFA Champions League: 2011-2012 season

  • Premiership in 2004-2006, 2009-2010, 2011-2012. season

  • FA Cup: 2006-2012 seasons at a stretch.

  • Football League Cup: 2004- 2005, 2005,-2006, 2006-2007 and 2014-2015 seasons.

  • FA Community Shield : 2005 and 2009.

  • Chelsea player of the year 2007 and 2010.

  • Africa Nations cup Top scorer 2012

  • African best footballer of the year 2006 and 2009.

He has other numerous titles to his records.
He backed out from international football in 2018

CONCLUSION

The game of football has come to stay as it has made numerous positive impacts not just to the football players alone, but to the countries of the world at large.

The game has now become a shared passion, a uniting factor, a rewarding occupation, an health and fitness enhancer and a platform that develops the the youths around the world.

UN did well by marking this day to remember and honor all footballers around the world.
