Hematology is the study of blood and its components that is in the short form of things. In full definition, hematology is the medical study of blood and blood disorders, through diagnosis, treatment and prevention of blood related diseases such as leukemia, sickle cell, anemia, bleeding disorders, and so much more. A person or medical personnel who pratices hematology is known as a hematologist, hematologists pull out blood from patients to perform certain tests to determine the disease.
Today we will be dealing with one of the process known as Thin blood film which is being perfomed in the hematology table. To perform a thin blood film, you require the following;
Blood sample from the patient
A dropper
A bold maker to label
A clean slide
Another slide for spreading
How to Make A Thin Blood Film |
---|
The process of spreading is all about techniques which are, to
- Place a very small drop of blood on the slide,
- Place your spreader in contact with the blood at 45° to the slide
- Place one hand at the end of the other slide and use the other hand to hold the spreader.
- Gently and firmly spread the blood on the slide.
After making a thin blood film, you have to be sure you did it right if not the results will not be good so here are some few qualities of a good thin blood film;
- Should be almost transparent
- Should be uniform
- Should fill about 3/4 of the slide.
I will continue with part two and i hope you all stay tuned for more knowledge this presentation is for everyone and not just for medical students.
