Steem greetings @everyone from motherland-Cameroon and welcome to my blog as I bring to you all another exciting contest titled “Autism Spectrum Disorder Awareness”. I hope we all find pleasure to participate in this contest and other contests on the Steemit platform across different communities.

Background to the Contest.

Nowadays, it is common phenomenon for women to give birth to autistic children. The number of autistic children is increasing but awareness on how to take proper care of these vulnerable kids is lacking.

In my community, people still believe that children suffering from “autism spectrum disorder” are bewitched kids. To the extent that some people even give advice to parents of autistic children to abandon them because they represent bad luck.

People are so ignorant about cases as such and need proper education via sensitisation campaigns to create awareness for the need to protect these vulnerable kids.

I witnessed a case of recent (my present neighbours), my landlord came to me complaining about the tenants and was thinking of evicting them due to the autistic child they had. When he mentioned about eviction, I was quick to find out why he was taking such decision. He said “…they have a child who is behaving like he is bewitched… he has serious anger threats and always like to isolate himself, defecate on his body and at the same time used it and paint the walls…”. He was pissed off with the child’s actions and ignorant about children suffering from autistic syndrome. I had to educate him about children suffering from the disorder.

This contest is aimed at raising awareness about Autism and also as a medium for people to learn on how to handle such cases.
