The Feelings of Lockdown.

Steem greetings all the way from the motherland-Cameroon. It is yet another day for us to rejoice because God has been on the throne.

It has been a week and 2 days and still counting the lockdown imposed on us by the separatist fighters. Each day passes by with its own challenges but we keep the hope alive.

The feelings you get outdoor after days indoors

I do not know if I should say we have endured enough but as it stands who are we to even offer a word? As you offered any word against any of the parties actively taking part in the conflict, you automatically get the sign of “blackleg”. You wouldn't dare to be termed a blackleg because the consequences are outrageous. A woman was killed her private parts cut off and her head cut off by separatist fighters just because she was a prison guard and had said some negative words against the fighters. That is to tell you how bad it is to be termed a blackleg.

No one understands which direction we heading to because I consider the war senseless with no positive impact but rather inflicting more pain on the common man.

It is the second week of the lockdown and I have been feeling tired of staying at home for weeks. It is frustrating for me to see my kids stay back at home while other kids are in school in a different region of the country. They are being deprived of their basic human rights (the right to education) by the same people who claim to protect them. The same so-called leaders are fighting a war for their own selfish reasons but use our kid's education as a weapon of war.

Today, I decided to take a walk along the streets to see what the environment looks like. Behold, it was indeed a scary feeling. The streets were ghosted, and even birds on such days do not fly around anyhow. Everywhere was quiet and calm but I could get people's voices talking at very low tunes.

This is a busy street on normal days with heavy traffic flow but today it was a ghosted street.

I walked down to another street and the same scenario I witnessed was a ghosted street. I could not continue further because it was scary and the military armoured cars patrolling the streets. You wouldn't dare to approach an environment as such because, with any wrong move, you will be gunned down for no reason and brandished to be a separatist fighter.

I called them the courageous ones braving the odds, walking on the frosted streets to hustle for their daily bread.

The weather was cold with little showers of blessing, so I decided to return back home and prepare food for lunch. While at home, I accompanied my kids to do their homework tasks for the day sent via WhatsApp by the head teacher to catch up before school resumed the next week after the lockdown was over.

My food for the day.

On such days, we have to check on each other because you never can tell what is happening in his or her neighbourhood. This is to ensure everyone close to you is safe somehow. I chatted with my friend for almost 30 minutes and we discussed her challenges in marriage. I advised her and she was so happy to speak out to me.

Guys, it was a frustrating day with lots of imagination and thoughts running through my mind but one thing is certain there is still hope. Of course, we only hope for a better future for our kids. We only hope that one day life will return back to normalcy. It is a good night from my end and to all my Cameroonian steemians in the conflict-affected regions of Cameroon, stay safe and keep playing your part in nation-building.
