Before I give a rundown analysis and winners, I will first apologise for announcing the winners late. I have been facing poor internet connections and frequent blackouts, coupled with 2 weeks of lockdown imposed on us by separatist fighters.

Thank you, @chant! It's a topic that can't be written about enough...

Allow me to ask: what's going on with you in Cameroon or your region - you have a separatist movement that... wants to achieve what? How are you doing with it? Are you safe?

Greetings @weisser-rabe, Cameroon is a bilingual country with a majority of French-speaking Cameroonians and a minority of English-speaking Cameroonians. They were colonised by France and Britain.

After independence, they decided to form a unitary state with equal status. But over the years, the Minority English-speaking Cameroonians felt marginalised and some activists started glamouring for a two-state federal government.

The government made up of a majority of French-speaking Cameroonians said “The form of the state is not negotiable”.

Another group of activists said if the form of the state is not negotiable, then separation is important to form a separate state named ( “Ambazonia”).

They imposed a ghost town on everyone every Monday as a way of pushing forth their agenda. They stopped children from going to school since October 2016, especially in the interior villages highly controlled by them. In the city, each year during school resumption, they imposed a lockdown for days.

Our kids were supposed to resume a new academic year on the 4th of September 2023 but the separatist fighters imposed a 2 weeks lockdown. We are forced to sit back at home, shops, offices, and streets are empty and one can only hear the sounds of gunshots, state military patrols and separatist patrols.

The hardship is unbearable but we have no choice but to stay back at home for 14 days.

Good morning and wow! Thank you for your detailed explanation...

Once again it leaves me speechless. I understand the need for independence. But at the same time I have in mind that such a thing cannot be implemented against the people - their interests should have priority. How is that supposed to work if it results in lockdowns and great difficulties for the inhabitants...? That's no way to take anyone with them. Besides, such an independent state needs its own budget, its own finances for the extensive state tasks. I am quite sure that such considerations play a subordinate role for separatists.

So... Where does it go from here? This cannot be a permanent state of affairs!

I consider it a failed state already and functioning online, promoted by selfish Anglophones in the diaspora.

From all indications, their agenda cannot work because they have proven to have a hidden agenda.

They are constantly harassing inhabitants with high levels of kidnapping for ransom, indiscriminate killing of civilians not actively taking part in the conflict, and torturing inhabitants with frequent lockdowns. For over 7 years now, children in this region cannot go to school freely.

Are there interventions there on the part of the UN or other globally active organisations?

Yeah, UN agencies are actively in the field assisting with humanitarian aid but to resolve the conflict, the UN Security Council had a discussion about the conflict but China as one of the 5 permanent members objected that Cameroon is a sovereign state and should handle its affairs without foreign intervention.

Canada has opted to act as a third party to mediate and end the conflict but the government has shown no interest.

Hard to accept this... I wish you very much that a way will be found to put an end to this state of affairs! Your children should grow up without being exposed to such conflicts. Best regards from Germany!

Thank you for showing concern.🫶🫶
