Hi there, and welcome to my post. Today, I'll be discussing the International Day of Families. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank @steem-cameroon for creating this competition.

What I am Aware of that Day

Every year on May 15th, there is an International Day of Families celebration, the United Nations founded it in 1993 because of how important families are to our society. Families are crucial to the growth and development of every nation, including Nigeria. For instance, all of our leaders in various fields are descended from one or more families, and this has a big impact on the majority of their ideologies. In Nigeria, we also celebrate that day in the same May 15th, I believe that one of the goals of the Families Day celebration is to raise awareness of the value of families in our culture.

My Proposed Mascot and What it's Represent

I suggested this mascot because I think it depicts a family taking a leisurely trip. This, in my opinion, demonstrates the importance of the family unit, the value of spending time with them, affection, and the creation of a loving, peaceful environment for the kids to develop in. This helps the kids to learn the importance of family and the value of family. This mascot, in my opinion, embodies the spirit of International Families Day.

Description of my Proposed Mascot

The mascot depicts the main members of a family; a father, a mother, a son, and a daughter. They are all linked by their hands, signifying unity, and they are all travelling or going out, signifying spending time with family and investing in the peace of the family.

The fact that the children in the diagram have the support of their parents, who are there to love, care for, and reprimand them, is another significant message conveyed by the family.
They have a dog as a pet to demonstrate that, while pets are permitted in family settings, they should never take the place of a family member.

Changes Families Day Brought to different Communities in Nigeria

Allow me to begin by outlining some of the celebration's events and the changes and effects they have on our community as a whole.

Visiting an Orphanage

This is a day for non-governmental organisations, individuals, and agencies to show love to the orphans. They experience affection and realise that they have family around them despite not having biological parents.

Awareness-Building Initiatives

The day's other significant endeavours include raising people's awareness and teaching them the value of families and children as the world's future. This in a way has helped families in different ways.

Media

Even though I have to admit that Nigeria's media coverage of International Families Day is currently somewhat lacking, I think that over time, it will gain more traction. They currently use radio stations and television to advise people about the value of family and how vital it is, but I think Nigeria can still do more. Nevertheless, the advice has also helped many families.

The active promoter and what can be added

Currently, non-governmental organisations, some religious organisations, and some government agencies are the main groups in Nigeria that observe and promote this day. I can't help but feel that greater national awareness is still needed, and if it's feasible, we should designate a public holiday so that people can spend time with their families. I think this will help to increase knowledge of the day in Nigeria and make the celebration stronger.

declaring a public holiday in Nigeria, I think, will benefit the family as a whole to get together and attend activities like sports or leisure that will further strengthen family bonds.

Another thing I think can be added is a national seminar and workshop covering subjects like parenting, family health, preventing domestic abuse, and empowering family members economically can be carried out. Even though we don't currently do these in Nigeria, I would personally advise that we start doing it to celebrate that day.

In conclusion, the day was set aside to raise awareness of families and their importance. In my opinion, Nigerians can use this opportunity to further raise awareness and address issues that affect families like poverty, unemployment, access to healthcare, education, and many other issues. By doing this, we can help the nation's families become even more robust and healthy.

I will like to invite @mandate, @lizzyd, @jennyvic09 to comment and join this contest.
