COVID 19 VACCINE RESISTANCE IN AFRICA. ( Is it a dumb move or a wise decision?)

Do you know about 4 million women as of this year are unable to receive childbirth care, 7 million children are missing necessary health vaccination and about 5 million and above women and adolescent are losing access to contraceptive?
Added to this is the continue increase the the poverty rate, unemployment rates, mortality rate all due to COVID 19.
36 very poor countries are actually facing this devastating effect of COVID 19, and 26 of these 36 counties are found in Africa and yet the COVID 19 vaccine faces very stiff resistance in Cameroon. Then I keep wallowing immensely in my thoughts. Is it that Africans have fallen in love with poverty that they are Keen on not fighting the spread of the virus?

Counties like Madagascar, Burundi and Tanzania are outrightly rejecting the vaccine.
What can be the reason for such stiff resistance to the vaccine despite the devastating effect of COVID 19? Why will some countries choose to rather face this difficult economic and Health situations rather than take the COVID 19 vaccine?

Prior to this article I did carry out a survey interview session with a couple of people to get the reasons for the resistance.

The questions I asked was,
" If you are given the virus, will you take it"
If Yes tell me Why and if No tell me why.

I asked this question to over 20 persons. Most of the people I interviewed told me they won't take the vaccine and listed a couple of reasons for their response. Listed below are reasons advanced for not wanting to take vaccine.

1. Inadequate information. It can be seen that since before the COVID 19 pandemic, there was an inadequate supply of information about the virus. Most Africans had little or no information to dwell on and so began to distrust the existence of the virus. This has made Africans resist taking the virus.

2. Using Africa as a test ground. Few months after the pandemic, very few numbers were recorded in Africa in comparison to the number recorded in the western countries, yet there were rumors that testing of the first Covid 19 vaccine will be in Africa. This raised suspicions and consequently the resistance of Africans towards a vaccine.

3. Source of information. Most of the people resisting the virus have social media as their main source of information. Now this social media is flooded with negative information about Covid. This is can be seen as a failure to supply credible information by authorities in charge.

4. Immune to the COVID 19 virus. Africans are of the opinion that they are immune to the disease. The rate at which the Corona virus affected the Western world was different from what we experience in Africa. The impact was more in the western world even though they had more sophisticated equipments to handle the outbreak. This has made Africans to believe that they are immune to the virus and this has been a big reason to this resistance.

5. Distrust and fear. Most Africans have developed distrust for the Western authorities. Not believing that the western world has our good at heart. Most people fear that the whites want to use this vaccines as a means to spread various diseases.

Why I think in my opinion the resistance to the vaccine is dumb.

Now, looking at the various reasons given by Africans why the don't want to take the vaccine, most Africans sincerely think it's a way that the Western world wants to spread infectious diseases to Africa, which might be rightly so, I am not saying not saying it's impossible, I lack evidence enough to say otherwise, but I am just very curious. Why am I curious?.

Just recently Apollo vaccines were being given to children in Cameroon, in an effort to fight against Apollo. Where have several vaccines like the meninges vaccine and many others that we are quite comfortable in taking. I have one question to ask? Are all, if not majority of these vaccines not produced by the Western world? Fortunate or unfortunately, these vaccines are manufactured from there.
So if truly the intention was to spread infectious diseases through vaccines, why will they not use the vaccines we already know about and won't reject, why will they go through the process and stress of manufacturing one? Why not add the components that will infect Africans in the vaccine they are already used to? After all it is not like we have equipments that are capable of testing every vaccine and even if we do have, we don't do the testing.

So in my opinion, the scare not to take the vaccine is dumb as I earlier mentioned, go take your vaccine and be safe. Let us reduce the vices our society is facing. Children are missing out on very important health services, poor countries are going poorer because of Corona virus.
