Students writing exams
Exams period in the University of Bamenda is always a very busy time for me. I had to invigilate from higher institute of commerce and management sciences (HICM), the faculty of arts ( FA) and precisely the UBaLac department and the higher technical teachers training college (HTTTC) and to mark international relations in the faculty of law and political science. It should be noted that international relations is a course in the department of political science but it is compulsory for all first year students of the faculty of law and political science.
MORNING
Exams start at 7:30am prompt and all invigilators are expected to be on campus latest 7 am. This is clear enough and I woke up at 4am to read some documents I had downloaded.
I just wanted to keep myself abreast with recent events and happenings in Ukraine. Don’t ask me why I read about Ukraine because its normal that as a man, a political scientist, a jurist, I should be current with contemporary political issues. I read right into the early hours of 6am. At this point, I stopped reading and prepared to go to school. I left the house at 6:50 am and at 7am I was in school.
on my way to School
I went down to the office and collected exams materials and by 7:10am, everything was set and the students ready for the exercise. I shared exams materials and later on the question papers and at exactly 7:30am,
Campus
I ordered the students to start writing. Hahaha sorry I did not inform you of the school we started with. It was HICM. This course was to end at 9:30 and the other course was to start immediately. The next course started at 9:30 and ended at 11:30am
AFTERNOON
Break Period
The next course which started at 11:30am ended at 1:30pm. At this point in time, it was time for break. I went down to the office, registered the papers I had collected and ate my own share of lunch provided by the school.
At exactly 2pm, we commenced with the next course and this was going to be the last for the day. It ended at 4pm.
EVENING.
I went down to the office to give a record of how the exams went and to register the answer booklets I had collected. This exercise is damn tiring. it seems easy but it is until you are given the opportunity to perform the task, only then will you know it’s not easy. There is an important part that is missing from this diary right? Are you interested to know how exams malpractices were check and how we uncovered the cases that existed?
Exams malpractices
- A warning against exam malpractices*
This is an exercise some students spend their time preparing for and it is punishable by the university law. Some students instead of reading spend time preparing small papers on which prepared materials that will be used in the exams are written on.
Pieces of papers.
Prepare materials are used. That is information is written on pieces of papers and some ladies go as far putting these pieces of papers in their thighs. Some put these papers in their breast and some in their caps.
The most recent technique is these pieces of papers are folded and inserted into their corks of pen. This one is very difficult to discover when checking students in. at times we catch them when they are using these papers to extract the information on it.
Phones in the exams hall.
This is the most common exam malpractice discovered on students during exams. Students after due warning according to the examination guideline articles 5,7, and 8 still commit exams malpractices. They make use of their phones by using google to search information that will help them answer questions that were set. Most often, they are unfortunate because they get caught and reports made on their papers.
Let us halt at this point for now. It order to avoid long and boring diary games, I employ you to come back and read the diary for exams day 2.
@rme

God bless you

Indeed the normal session is a very stressful day. Just do your best not to go to the reseat session (rattrapage). That is the worst.
Good luck for your exams bro
