Zero Discrimination Day : My Unique Mascot

Zero Discrimination Day is a day that was initiated by UNAID since 2014 with the global mission of promoting equality, inclusiveness, and ensuring that every individuals live a life that is free from discrimination. This day is always held on the 1st of March annually. Series of activities ranging from creation of awareness on gender discrimination , health status discrimination, race discrimination and disability discrimination among others are always carried out this day.

Meanwhile, Discrimination on its own can be defined as the unequal treatments given to someone due to certain differences existing between you and the person. This differences may range from gender issues, racism, health issues etc. As such, it is true that this day calls for inclusiveness and collective efforts to eliminate barriers that may hinder people from Accessing equal job opportunities, grant facilities, scholarship and fair treatment. This day draws emphasis on the celebration of diversity other than using it as a yardsticks for exclusion and discrimination.

Government, Non Governmental Organization, Religious institutions, and individuals uses this day to carry out different campaigns and open shows on the fight against this cancer and it is based on this premised that I decide to present a Mascot so as to show a future that is built on equality love and fairness. An era where diversity is celebrated and everyone is proud to represent his/herself without any fear or intimidation.

As an advocate for an era with zero discrimination, my mascot signifies an era free from prejudice and discrimination of all kinds. It embodies the sense of diversity, freedom inclusiveness, love, equality and empowerment to everyone regardless of who and what they are.

The entire body of my mascot is a combination of diverse colours blending together to make a whole. These varying colours symbolizes diversity of different kinds such as gender, race, culture, health status, disability while their ability to blend together represents inclusiveness and zero discrimination. At a glance, one could see the beauty of diversity as they all come together to create a more harmonious world

At the centre of the mascot is a white heart which symbolizes love, fairness, purity, kindness, acceptance among others. The white color indicates purity as such entailing a world full of transparency in dealings without anyone thinking badly or having an evil thought on anyone based on their differences. The position of the heart being at the core of the mascot attaches more meanings to its relevance.

Just as an eagle whose strength centres on it wings, the mascot posses two strongly Radiant Wings which represents total freedom and barrier breaking of all kinds. The two wings with diverse colors indicates the freedom from discrimination entitled to everyone irrespective of who and what they are. This enables individual whether dark or fair, tall or short to fly to their full potentials with discrimination or barriers of any form

The mascot in addition to the Multicolored Body, heart and wings posses a sharply expressed eyes which embodies awareness of one right, and a clear vision of a better future where zero discrimination shall no longer be said but practiced. The sharpness points to an era where anyone's as the ability to visualize injustice while promoting and appreciating fairness.

Since I do not have sufficient knowledge on drawing, I started by drawing the head of my mascot.

I later joined the head to the body. It was stressful but follow step to step approach so as to enable mistakes
