Hi there!
Do you know that moment in life when hurts held you square bound and all you were left with is that bitter thought in you, waiting for an opportunity to get even?
Beloved, permit me this morning to invite you to turn your Bible's with me to Hebrews 12:15. The Lord said: "See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many."1
I may not know your pain, it might have hurt so badly. To be candid, I will never know by experience what you have been through. But I know this, "The Lord wants you to see to it that you don't miss out on His favor in your life by allowing bitterness to cause trouble in you, leading to your down fall."2
You can not control what others do you, but you can control the way you will respond to all that happens to you. Don't allow someone else to control your life by holding on to a painful experience.
You know we are a sum total of our past, but God did not meant for the past to be our dwelling place. We have today to rejoice and be glad in. That pain had a purpose known to God, and aimed for your good. Pick up the lessons from it and God's grace locate you in Jesus name.
Do not allow someone else to control your life. If someone has ever gotten you to a point were you said, "You got me very upset"? That, is a prove that someone is controlling you. You can get this giant out of your head and heart by allowing God to heal the hurt. He said "My grace is sufficient for you..."
See to it that you don't fall short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile you and the people surrounding you.3
Bitterness has the tendency to spread from one person to another, and it can infect a whole generation, from great grand parents to great grand children. The truth is someone needs to stand up and say no to bitterness. And that person can be you. Your relationship, your family, etc need to experience God's grace through you.
You know somethings we do in life sounds so funny. A friend of mine once told me that, "You see this fight, my family will never stop fighting it." When I inquired to know why he had to say so, he said, "it is a generational fight. My father's father inherited it and past it down to my father and he is going to hand it to us." When I told him it is time to break up the chains of bitterness in his family, he asked me how? And I quote:
If you don’t get God’s grace in your life, life will make you bitter. Why? Because there is sin in the world. We live on a broken planet. This is not heaven. Evil people get away with evil things all the time. Life is not fair.4
That's the point. You will always be bitter if you lack God's grace in your life. Sin has envelope the world, but we are not of the world. Though we live in it, our citizenship is in heaven. We belong to God (that is if you have surrendered your life to Jesus said). Therefore, let us keep our alien identity.
Life is not fair. Forgiveness is not fair either! But we are not call to do fair things. Rather we are to do that which is right. You are to forgive because it's the right thing to do. You can't drink poison and expect your enemy to die. Bitterness is deadly. You don't need to hold unto that hurt and hate.
Free yourself by forgiving your offender. It won't cost you a dime. But your forgiveness cost God His only Son, and it cost Jesus his life.
Jesus Christ thought us how to do this to our enemies when he said in Luke 23:34, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing”.
You know I feel like Jesus was saying to His enemy that “I love you".5 This is grace. They were not fair with him. He knew that life is not fair to us, but we need to do the right thing. Forgiving them is the right thing. They don't merit it.
Beloved, you can learn from Jesus to offer forgiveness today. Allow God's grace to heal you. Do away with that bitterness and be free in Jesus name. Amen
