Greetings to everyone on platform, its always a pleasure to participate in the engagement challenge in the steemit platform. This week’s topic is a very special and interesting one I must say, and the responses that have been given so far even makes my point firmer. So I decided to share with you all on my thoughts on this week’s topic, Gender Visibility and Equality.

How Can You Help Your Community Forge a Gender-Equal World?

In my community, gender discrimination has been one of the most disturbing and pressing issue that is associated with the community. Right from birth or at younger ages, individuals start discriminate boys and girls into stalwart s and weaklings respectively. And the idea is carried out and passed to young ones, and the young girls are treated as weaklings whilst boys are treated as courageous and bold individuals. Young girls are then deprived of certain opportunities and rights such as education, freedom of speech and even abuse sometimes. And all these affects the spirits and mentality of the female child, that she has no choice but submit to cruel decisions that are imposed on her by society.

These issues have been talked about due civilization and modernization, and the problems seems to getting better in recent times. Even though they are still a few communities in the country that still discriminates against females. And citizens and tomorrow leaders, it is our duty to help stop all sorts of discriminations against the girl child and bring about gender-equality so as to give equal opportunities and rights to girls that are determined become prominent personnel or contribute to the future of the country.

I think education or sensitization is the most effective way to help forge a gender-equal world. Educating the public on the need give equal opportunities to boys and girls in the community, and also changing their mentality on how they perceive the girl child. Let them know that the girl has the ability to do more, let them know that the girl child is capable of doing good.

Can Celebrating Women’s International Day Increase Visibility and Equality?

Women’s International Day is a celebration that was established by the UN to celebrate the accomplishment of Women every year and also create civil awareness of women in the countries and globally. This day is a very key day to help create awareness on gender equality and the role of women in our communities.

I believe celebrating this day can help increase visibility and equality in our communities or countries as a whole. Prominent women in authority give speeches to motivate young and growing ladies, this uplifts their spirits so that they also aspire to attain those high positions in the future and they work hard for it.

Are Feminism Fight and Women’s Right Fight the Same?

In general, feminism can be seen as a movement to put an end to sexism, sexist exploitation, and oppression and to achieve full gender equality in law and in practice.source

Whereas The fight for women's suffrage in the United States began with the women's rights movement in the mid-nineteenth century. This reform effort encompassed a broad spectrum of goals before its leaders decided to focus first on securing the vote for women.source

The two terms are kind of different from these definitions given, whereas feminism is about exercising women’s right, women’s right fight is about making opportunities equal for both men and women.

What Do You Say About Women in Top Positions Like Presidents, Parliamentarians, Senators, CEOs and COO? Give Possible Examples in Your Country.

I think positions such as Presidents and all the above-mentioned positions are not gender specific positions, and so women have equal rights and should be given equal rights as men to also aspire for those positions. and whoever is in those positions whether men or women, I actually don’t think it is huge factor to consider in their performance.

In my country, equal rights has been given to both men and women to occupy those positions, and they have been a number of female aspirants for the presidency position in the country even though none of them have ever been successful yet in the elections for the presidency. But they are a lot of women in other top positions in the country, positions like Member of parliament, 40 women are currently part of the parliament in the eighth republic of Ghana, Electoral Commission of Ghana Chairperson is also a Woman. They has also been the first ever woman Speaker of parliament, not only in the country but in the whole of West Africa, number of women also hold the country’s ministerial positions. And they all have being doing a great job at their positions.

What Makes a Good Leader (Gender or Merits?).

For me I believe in merits than gender in choosing a leader, although they are some positions that either women or men turn to thrive more efficiently than the other. And such positions like the Welfare of Women and Children, the ministry of interior affairs and a large number of health workers are most women for some reason.

Conclusion.

Gender equality in our communities should be one of the priorities we should consider in other to have peace and stability. Girls and boys should be given equal rights to everything there is, cultural background should not be a hindrance.
