A Near-Death Experience: What Late Night Dinner Taught Me

I got home last night at exactly 9 pm and I was very tired and dizzy. I was going to make a detailed post about how my day went but I was tired and hungry too.

I decided to eat first… I remember eating; I finished the first plate of Eba and Ogbonno soup which I prepared in the morning before leaving home. That was the same thing I had in the morning before leaving home.

I also remember serving myself for the second time. That was the last thing I remembered…

….only for me to find myself struggling in the middle of the night. I suddenly became sick. I had severe pains coming from my chest, back, abdomen and stomach. I struggled to even stand up.

I was so scared. I thought I was going to die. I quickly dropped a message via Facebook for my doctor but she was not online. I tried sleeping but I couldn't. It was so uncomfortable.

I tried flashing back to what must have happened to me. The only thing I remember was eating. The plates I used were still lying there. That means I slept off while eating, which was why I couldn't clear the plates. It wasn't making any sense. I was fine few hours ago.

I tried asking Google what was going on but I couldn't even hold my phone. I decided to just allow myself to relax. I closed my eyes and when I opened them again, it was 4:23 am.

By this time, the pain had increased but I really needed to know what was going on so that I could help myself (first aid) before a professional attended to me.

With tears in my eyes, I managed to ask Google what was happening. I described my situation and there were a lot of opinions. The only one that best explained what was happening to me was indigestion.

I decided to focus more on that and I got a remedy. ‘Drink enough water first and rest…’

I quickly grabbed a glass of water and when I was gulping the water, I felt lumps in my esophagus going down my stomach. Looks like a wrap of Eba (a Nigerian swallow) has been there all along. 🥺

I started feeling better. So, I decided to rest until now. I am fine as I write this.

Late night dinner and sleeping immediately after eating dinner is something I am not doing again.

Thank God for technology and for every other thing. This can be referred to as a testimony. Sincerely, it really felt like death itself and I am glad to be alive.
